Mets:
SS Ruben Tejada didn’t pass
the base running test. He’s not ready to come back.
Everybody I know in baseball… the Mets coaches, players, my
readers, my writers… are so sick of the Ike Davis situation.
Someone told me: “TC tells him he’s not going down, they don’t let him bat
against lefties. How is he supposed to get out of the well (“source hint” – key
word here is the use of the word ‘well’)?
AAA-Buffalo:
Jenrry
Mejia will make first Triple-A start of the season Wednesday.
RHP Erik
Turgeon reinstated from Binghamton DL
Boy, starting pitcher Garrett Olson was just cruizin’ down the road, keeping
New Hampshire scoreless through four… and then biff, bam, pow! Five earned runs
in the 5th… Olson done: 5.0-IP, 10-H, 5-ER, 5-K, 0-BB, 4.70…
Turns ball over to
(yawn) Elvin Ramirez… scoreless streak now: 11.2
IP (9G, 13K, BB)…
LF Fred
Lewis (.300) hit his second home run, a 3-run bomb, in the 2nd
inning…
2B Jordany
Valdespin (.271) singled in 1B Josh Satin (.281)
in the 8th…
Three more runs given up by Eric Turgeon (9.42). What am I missing here?
AA-Binghamton:
Pedro Lopez on Reese
Havens –
“Right now, I just feel like he’s playing catch-up with the
whole league. For him, this is spring training, and that’s what spring training
is all about. It’s a lot of fun to be around him. He goes out there and works
hard every day. He goes out there with Luis Natera, our hitting coach, to try
and work on his swing and try to make things right. This is the first time I’ve
worked with him on a regular basis and I think he’s going to come out of this
one.”
Tonight was Greg Peavey’s 5th non-quality start out of
eight. That isn’t good. He gave up 5-ER in the first five innings and his
seasonal ERA hit 5.84. This simply isn’t working for Greg and you might see him
move to the pen around the break when they might move someone up from St.
Lucie.
RF Juan Lagares (.271) doubled in a run. It looks like
2011 was as far as this kid will take it. Still, he’s young and Buffalo could
have a worse right fielder in 2013-2016.
A+ - St. Lucie: -
OF Cesar Puello placed on St. Lucie DL w/ left hamate fracture
– this should end the season for Puello who was projected to play Buffalo this
season and possibly be the first OFer to make Queens. Many scouts have him as
the top oF prospect in the system, though it always has been mostly on tools,
not results. Tough injury.
The summer is here and,
as we have learned the last couple of nights, some of the pitchers are getting
bounced around. It happenes every year at this time, not because the hitters
hit better in hot weather. No, it’s because the pitchers could use a break
right about now. Tonight’s turn was Angel Cuan,
who gave up three runs in the second inning. Cuan went 4.2 and gave way to Jack Leathersich, who got back on the horse (2.1-IP,
0-R, 2-K, 3.60).
I’m trying not to get
excited about what C Blake Forsythe has done
lately. I was thrilled when he was drafted, thinking that the Mets had stolen a
gem. Blake had a piss-pour last season in school, but had proven the year
before that he had the talent to hit big time. Tonight, he continues the road
back, with a 2-3, .271 line.
Rylan
Sandoval scored on a wild pitch in the eight and tied it up 4-4.
Lucy won on a Cory Vaughn walk-off walk.
This team is charmed.
A – Savannah:
Michael Fulmer -
great workout this morning. Let's go get a WIN tonight.
INF Brian Harrison placed on
Savannah DL w/ left oblique strain.
1B Cole Frenzel transferred to
Savannah, and starts tonight.
I don’t understand the logic of playing your top OF prospect
(Gilbert Gomez) at the DH slot. What are they
thinking?
RF Charlie Thurber had another
good game tonight, and God knows, he could use a few more.
SP Rafael Montero “attended
class” again tonight: 7.0-IP, 3-ER, 4-K, 0-BB, 2.81. He sure looks like a good
one.
