LAST GAME: The New Hampshire Fisher Cats collected 14 hits, including seven for extra-bases, to defeat the Binghamton Mets 9-3 in the series opener last night at NYSEG Stadium. Brad Glenn and Brian Van Kirk supplied home runs to power the Fisher Cats offense. Darin Gorski was tagged for four runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings in his third loss. Joel Carreno struck out seven and allowed just one run over five innings to pick up his first win with New Hampshire in 2012. Kai Gronauer launched his first home run of the season.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Greg Peavey (3-1, 5.45) makes his ninth start of the season and third against the Fisher Cats. Peavey collected a win in his previous start against the Portland Sea Dogs on May 20. The righty battled through five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits to earn his first victory since April 15. He walked three and struck out two in a game the B-Mets won by an 11-7 score. In two starts versus New Hampshire, Peavey has gone 0-1 with a 17.18 ERA. The Fisher Cats have tagged him for a .487 batting average in his 7.1 innings on the mound.
LHP Brett Cecil (2-2, 4.00) takes the mound for the seventh time this season. The southpaw combined with two relievers to no-hit the Portland Sea Dogs in his previous start on May 21. Cecil allowed no hits over 5.2 innings and Danny Farquhar and Ronald Uviedo combined to close out the memorable night with 3.1 more innings of no-hit relief. The win was Cecil’s second in as many starts. The lefty started the season with the Fisher Cats, but spent two weeks on the disabled list from mid-April to early May with a groin injury. Selected as the 38th overall pick of the 2007 draft out of the University of Maryland, Cecil made 65 starts with the Toronto Blue Jays some 2009-2011. He has gone 26-22 with a 4.64 ERA in the Major Leagues.
