Dodgers sign Korean
LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu. $36M for 6 yrs. In the 7
months since LAD's new ownership was approved, it has added about $650 million
in contracts
This is, like, exactly opposite of everything we are going through this
year as Mets fans. OOut team can’t seem to sign anyone and the Dodgers don’t
seem to have any long range fiscal plan. If all this spending translates into a
profitable business, why isn’t everyone doing this. Yeah, I know, it’s LA, but
don’t we root for a team in a larger city?
S2S - Finding themselves on the losing end of Zach Greinke’s free agent decision and unsure of which
potentially available pitcher to target, the Texas Rangers appear to have
expressed a willingness to the New York Mets to include third base prospect Mike Olt in a potential trade for R.A. Dickey. Despite this, a deal between the two
sides appears unlikely as the Rangers would need to include additional players
in order to entice the Mets, according to Andy
Martino of the New York Daily News…
I’m not sure you’re going to get more than this. Olt is a big-time
prospect who hit 28 home runs and knocked in 82 runs last year at the AA level.
He will play next season at 24 and he’s one of the top 10 prospects right now
in baseball. All of this after less than three professional seasons (1st
round, 49th overall – 2010 – Connecticut). C Jorge Alfaro wouldn’t hurt, but I think you may have got the most
Texas will offer here.
Me? I do the deal, because I also know I’m going to get at least three
more phone calls from teams that want Olt (that didn’t want Dickey). Take a
chance, Sandy.
The Royals have
traded top hitting prospect Wil Myers to the
Rays for starting pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis, according to Ken
Rosenthal of FOXSports.com
So, I guess the
Royals played Sandy pretty good here, talking about a possible Dickey to Myers
trade while, at the same time, getting another team to up the deal with another
player. It’s done every time and it’s why I called for Wilmer
Flores to be included in this deal. Oh, well, back to Mike Olt…
Grienke, Shields, and Myers are off the board.... less quality players still out there... a Dickey deal is comng (probably involving Olt, ina possible three-way)... stay tuned.

One final thought before I sign off: Talked to a bunch of scouts/FO folks tonight. Every last one of them said the Rays came out way ahead.)

Leonys Martin mentioned by a few of the beat writers as a potential return from Texas along with Olt. Would solve a lot of our offensive issues to have these two guys in our OF. Martin Murph Wright Davis Olt Duda Tejada Thole. Not terrible. Still a bit left handed though.
