Tom Brennan: Ugly

One word for being swept in 3 games by a combined score of 22-1…

UGLY

I’m gonna set my alarm for 6 AM on October 1, to remind myself to see if the Mets sneak into the Wild Card. I may not pay much attention until then. Better things to do than to watch millionaires croak.

South Sudan fared better against the U.S. Olympic men’s team than the Mets did in Seattle. A lot better.

Speaking of ugly, saw this in the Post:

“Nimmo entered Sunday with a .158/.286/.197 slash line in the second half and the embodiment of the team’s collective struggles offensively.”

On the flip side, the previously comatose Jeff McNeil has done this:

“McNeil…entered play 23-for-71 (.324) with five homers and 13 RBIs in the 21 games since the All-Star break.”

So why aren't Nimmo and McNeil switching places in the order? And why isn't Joey Churches moved up in the order? He did fine in the #2 slot last week, then was moved down in the order or "rested".

Bill, how about sitting Nimmo for a few days and letting Winker play?

Winker is not doing much better. This was a total collapse at the end of a gruelling road trip. Even Lindor made an error (though it was scored a hit) on a ground ball by dropping it backwards out of his glove. He's better than Vientos because he dropped it on the field instead of into the dugout. :)

Winker was acquired 2 weeks ago and gotten up just 29 times. Use him more before Marte returns. Maybe Nimmo needs a little more time off.

Tom,
Is Nimmo a player who has changed his hitting style to hit home runs and drive in runs when his success in the past has been to get on base with singles and walks as the proverbial " table setter". Something has damn sure changed. His defense is a strong area, but his hitting has noticeably changed.

Mike Cubbage passed away on Saturday after battling cancer for nearly a year.

Cubbage was 74.

Worth a shot, but I'd rather put McNeil in Nimmo's spot, with Churches at 2B. Winker and Taylor could platoon.

So sorry to hear about Cubbage passing. Prayers for his family.
