Tom Brennan: You Know What February Means

CASEY KNEW

February means….

Pitchers and catchers.

Intrasquad games.

Watching top 30 prospects.

And watching spring training games.

We have survived, to get psyched about February…

…and the return of Mets action.

Gary - whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not, we are not 6 weeks from real baseball. Just days away,

I would like to discuss the concept of trading for Dylan Cease: I don’t want to. Possibly in July, but right now giving up Sproat, Williams and Acuna for this rental to me is out of the question. Look at what the Brewers gave up for Corbin Burnes last year: a nice infield prospect but not as good as Acuna and a solid lefty starting prospect, that’s it! The Padres were spoiled by the Yankees emptying out they prospect list to get this “generational talent” and to that I say “F you Padres”! I would give Acuna straight up for him, and then give up Sproat? FU Padres! And then add then add a pitcher? Get the Fcck out of here Jon Heyman! This guy is the most obnoxious writer when writing about the Mets I have ever heard. He is a mouthpiece for Scott Boras but gets offended if you ask him about that, he’s a pawn for anything front offices throw at him, including this stupid trade idea coming out of San Diego! If the Mets felt they were an ace shirt, why keep signing all these other guys if you weren’t happy with them?

Gus, I agree. Far too much for a rental. I’d rather tell Sproat “you will be starting for the Mets by May 1…get ready”

People make phone calls. Sometimes they receive them too. I don't expect the Mets to do any rental deals. I just don't

I could see Stearns making a deal for Cease, but I would be stunned if Stearns gave up either Williams or Sproat for a rental. I’d also be stunned if he gave up more than one of Gilbert/Mauricio/Acuña/Clifford

Stearns is looking ahead at the next 3 years after this one where he’ll be looking to plug at least three cheap/young position players into FT roles.

One of the second group, along with maybe Megill and a lower-level prospect, I could see.
