In Focus - Dom Hamel

Mets pitching prospect Dom Hamel spun 5 scoreless innings vs. Scranton — just 2 hits allowed, no walks, and 3 strikeouts. He mixed six pitches with confidence, led by a sharp slider and a riding fastball with 17.5" of IVB. Solid command and a deep arsenal — keep an eye on him.

First, the bad news... it was 41 degrees at game time.

Then...

Fastball was 91-92 in the first inning.

13 strikes in 16 pitchers in the first two innings.

90.5-93 in 3rd innings... two hits total, still no runs.

57/68 through five innings... three Ks... still cold as shit...

He ended it there. WOW. Two observations... 1) you go, labs and 2) I don’t wanna here no cold weather wah wah wah rhetoric.

(Oh... by the way... have you seen what 1B Joey Meneses is doing so far? .438/1.188-OPS.

Word is J.T. Schwartz is rehabbing with St. Lucie on Friday. Why not promote Joey as RHDH?)

(Now Jon Singleton has been signed.)

Hats off to Dom. A lot of people wrote this guy off.

I know because I did.

Love it when pitchers fix their flaws. He and Tidwell throw harder than discarded Mike Vasil, who was another Garrison Bryant. Velocity plus accuracy = success.

I continue to root for this guy. He has battled through ups and downs over the past few years but I like his perseverance. Keep it up Dom!
