Mike Antonini offered up his second consecutive quality start versus Altoona, but again took the loss after allowing three runs over six innings in Binghamton’s 6-1 loss at Blair County Ballpark Monday night. The southpaw tied a season-high by allowing nine hits, but registered a new career-high with nine strikeouts against the Curve’s league-leading hitters.
Binghamton (44-40) tallied its only run in the first off left-hander Zach Duke, who was making a Major League rehab outing. Kirk Nieuwenhuis led off the game with a double to left-center, Jon Malo pushed him up to third with a groundout to first and Nick Evans plated the runner with a single to center.
Scott Shaw followed Antonini and retired the first two men he faced in the seventh, before running into two-out trouble. Hague laced a double down the line in left to get into scoring position and Gimenez drove him home with a single, upping the Altoona lead to 4-1.
Shaw ran into similar trouble in the eighth, giving up a pair of singles with one out before striking out d’Arnaud. With two outs, Hernandez plated a run with a single and Josh Harrison drove in the game’s final run with a single to right off reliever Dylan Owen. Shaw was charged for three runs over 1 2/3 innings of relief.
