LAST GAME: The B-Mets split a doubleheader with Portland
Friday night at NYSEG Stadium, taking Game 1 10-0 before
dropping the nightcap 10-2. Chris Schwinden took a perfect
game into the seventh inning in picking up his fourth win in
Game 1. The right-hander fired a complete-game shutout,
limiting the Sea Dogs to just two hits. Binghamton ripped
three homers in the lid-lifter as Raul Reyes, Kirk Nieuwenhuis
and Jon Malo left the yard. Alex Wilson took the loss for Portland
after allowing a season-worst eight runs over 4.1 innings.
Game 2 was a polar opposite of the first. The Sea Dogs got a
terrific spot-start from Ryne Lawson, who held the B-Mets to
two runs over a season-long five innings for his fifth win. Binghamton
closed the gap to a run with a pair of tallies in the
fifth, but Portland quickly extended its lead back to five in the
sixth inning against Roy Merritt. Scott Shaw took the loss, his
sixth. The righty allowed three runs in three-plus innings.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP GAME 1: RHP Josh Stinson is
due for his seventh start of the season tonight. He permitted a
season-high five runs over five innings in his last go-around
against Altoona, June 28. Stinson is 4-1 with a 3.04 ERA over
71 innings. As a starter, he is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 31.2
innings. The B-Mets are 6-0 in games the Louisiana native
starts. In 2009, Stinson split the season between Savannah
(Low-A) and St. Lucie (High-A) and went 5-3 with eight saves
and a 2.86 ERA in 78.2 innings combined. The Mets took him
in the 37th round of the June 2006 draft.
RHP Jeremy Kehrt will go for the Sea Dogs in his eighth start
since joining Portland in the middle of May from Salem (High-
A). He was the hard-luck loser in his last start, June 28 versus
Harrisburg, despite allowing an unearned run over five innings.
Kehrt is 1-4 with a 2.97 ERA over 36.1 innings. The
right-hander primarily worked out of the bullpen with Salem at
the year’s outset, going 3-1 with three saves and a 3.65 ERA
over 37 innings. He split 2009 between Lowell (SS-A) and
Greenville (Low-A), combining for a 3-4 mark and a 3.07 ERA
(76.1 IP). The Red Sox drafted the Indiana native in the 47th
round of the June 2008 draft out of Southern Indiana.
