LAST GAME: Three Altoona pitchers limited the B-Mets to just

a run on seven hits in the Curve’s 6-1 victory at Blair County

Ballpark Monday night. Major league rehabber LHP Zach Duke

led the way with three innings of one-run work, facing one

over the minimum. Binghamton’s only run came in the first

inning when Kirk Nieuwenhuis doubled to lead off the game.

Nick Evans singled him home with to give the B-Mets a shortlived

1-0 lead. Altoona responded with a pair of runs off Mike

Antonini in the bottom of the first on a sac fly from Matt

Hague and an RBI double with two outs from Hector Gimenez.

Antonini notched his second straight quality start, offering up

six innings of three-run work with a career-high nine strikeouts,

but took the loss. Justin Wilson followed Duke and

worked five, scoreless innings to pick up his seventh win.

Evans and Josh Satin enjoyed two-hit performances in the

losing effort.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Mark Cohoon will make

his third straight since joining the B-Mets two weeks ago from

Savannah (Low-A). In his last start, the southpaw tossed five

innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits with

four strikeouts against Portland July 1 for a no-decision. With

Binghamton, Cohoon is 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA over 10.2 innings.

He opened the season with Savannah and racked up a

7-1 mark and a measly 1.30 ERA over 13 starts (90.1 IP). His

ERA paced the South Atlantic League, as did his three shutouts.

Cohoon was a New York-Penn League All-Star last season

with Brooklyn (SS-A) thanks to a 9-2 record and a 2.15

ERA over 92 innings. The Mets drafted him in the 12th round

of the June 2008 draft out of North Central Texas College.

RHP Tim Alderson is due for his 17th turn through the Curve

rotation tonight. He has garnered decisions in his last five

starts, including a win in his last one, July 1 at Reading, when

he limited the R-Phils to a run on four hits over six, strong

innings. Alderson is 7-4 with a 4.63 ERA over 83.2 innings.

The Pirates acquired him in a trade with San Francisco last

year that sent INF Freddy Sanchez to the Giants in exchange

for the young righty. Alderson made seven starts for Altoona

last year, recording a 3-1 mark and a 4.66 ERA over 38.2

innings. He was originally drafted by the Giants 22nd overall

in the June 2007 draft out of Horizon HS (AZ).
