2011 DRAFT: - Randy McCurry, Alex Santana, Grayson Garvin, Sonny Gray... and Leland Clemmons

Randy McCurry:

7-26 from: - link  - Here are some names of draft eligibles for 2011 who have not been mentioned much and are definitely on the radar for 2011 MLB scouting depts. - RHP - Randy McCurry, Oklahoma St, 6'1 190, also SS for Cowboy program, has 91-94 fb, mostly true, needs to make commitment to bump.

Alex Santana:

7-29-10 from: - link  - 3B, Alex Santana, 6'3 200, R/R, imposing specimen with a strong throwing arm with carry and good glove, not as agile as an IF should be but he will get there, has good pop to his swing though it's long, ran BA to 1b, might be better on the way, right now BA for me, even with his reported sub 7.0, 60. Good upside, attends, Mariner HS in Florida. Keep an eye on him, the ball jumps off his bat, when he makes solid contact, tends to throw arms to the ball and lunge a bit. Definite follow for 2011!!!!

Grayson Garvin:

7-30-10 from: - link  - Grayson Garvin, LHP, Vanderbilt -- Garvin showed impressive polish and a feel for pitching on Wednesday, and also showed off solid raw stuff. He sat mostly 90-91 mph with his fastball, showing good command and the ability to live on both corners. The southpaw also mixed in a solid-average sweeping breaking ball at 73-75 mph and an effective 78-80 mph changeup. In other words, he is already working with three quality pitches with good command.

Sonny Gray:

7-30-10 from: - link  - Sonny Gray (Vanderbilt) struck out a career-best 14 batters setting a new USA FISU single-game record as the Collegiate National Team (CNT) used the 15-run rule after five innings to record its first win at the V FISU World University Championships Friday afternoon over Sri Lanka, 15-0 at Utsumi Shimaoka Ball Park. Gray was unhittable through 3 1/3 inning retiring 10 in a row, nine by strikeout, before Theekshana Gammanpila singled down the right field line on a ball that hit first base and popped over the head of Nick Ramirez (Cal State Fullerton). In all the right-hander allowed just two runners to reach base, one was on a wild pitch strikeout) and faced two over the minimum through five innings (17 hitters) notching his second win of the summer tour. With his 14-strikeout performance, Gray also tied a CNT single-game record for punch outs joining Jason Jennings (7/1/98) and B.J. Wallace (7/20/02) in the record books.

Leland Clemmons:

7-30-10 from: - link  - CF, Leland Clemmons, Indian River HS, Chesapeake VA, 5'8 1/2 155, R/R, pound for pound a lil dynamite in this package, runs and throws slightly better than average and quick bat with short stroke, good quickness and bursts on base paths, pesky type, some comps to Bip Roberts former ML for Padres/Pirates. Ran 4.18 to 1b, 4.35 on a turn on a two-bagger Wed., showed good speed chasing down fly balls during Championship game today.
