from press release:
The Herd completed their 27th come-from-behind victory tonight as they rallied back from four runs down to beat the Columbus Clippers 11-4 tonight at Coca-Cola Field.
Buffalo entered the bottom of the seventh inning trailing the team with the second best record in the league, 4-0. The Herd would score two runs in the seventh to trim the lead to 4-2.
The Bisons then came to the plate in the eighth and unleashed on the Clippers. The bats of the Herd awoke as they erupted for nine...yes, nine runs in the eighth inning.
Second baseman Justin Turner started off the rally when he hit his seventh home run of the year to lead off the inning. His teammates then followed Turner's suit as the next six batters would reach base by either a hit or a walk.
The streak of seven batters reaching base was broken up when catcher J.R House popped up to give the Bisons their first out. The Herd would have three more base runners get aboard before Clippers pitcher Zach Putnam would get Nick Evans and Fernando Martinez to strike out to finally stop the bleeding. However it was too late as the Herd had 13 batters come to the plate, putting the game well out of reach.
The nine run inning for the Herd was a historic feat. It was only the fourth time the Bisons scored nine runs in a single inning in the history of Coca-Cola Field. The other times the Bisons offense exploded for this much production occurred back on May 6th, 2001 when the Bisons scored ten on Richmond and June 26th, 1998 after the Bisons scored nine on the Durham Bulls in the fourth inning.
