TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons host the Rochester Red Wings in the second game of a two-game series at Frontier Field (6:05 p.m.). The Herd needs a win tonight to earn a split of the two-game set following Rochester’s 4-2 win last night. After today’s contest, the Bisons will move along the I-90 for a four-game series in Syracuse.

VS. THE RED WINGS: The Bisons are 6-5 against their closest rivals this season. The clubs split a pair of four-game sets earlier this season before Buffalo’s two-game sweep this week. The Bisons (8-9) are in second place in the 2011 Thruway Series standings, three games behind Syracuse (11-6) and a game and a half ahead of Rochester (9-13).

ON THE HILL: Triple-A rookie LHP MARK COHOON makes his ninth start as a Bison tonight. The southpaw lost his last time out, July 7 in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre despite his strongest start at Triple-A. Cohoon struck out seven, walked none and allowed just three runs in six innings of a quality start. After winning his first game with the team on May 30 in Charlotte, Cohoon is 0-4 with a 6.53ERA in four starts on the road (20.2IP, 15ER)

CATCHIN ON: C RAUL CHAVEZ extended his hit streak to eight games last night with his first home run as a Bison. The catcher has hit .371 (10-27) with two doubles, a home run and four RBI since the streak began on June 29. Chavez has been the IL’s top defensive catcher all season, throwing out 48.9% of would-be base stealers (23CS, 47ATT).

BIG GAME LUIS: INF LUIS HERNANDEZ drove in one of Buffalo’s two runs last night and now has six RBI in the three games after the All-Star break. On the season, the infielder is second on the Bisons with 42RBI on the season. Hernandez is on pace to beat his career-high 50RBI he drove in at three different levels during the 2010 season (12 in 47 games with the Bisons).

BISONS BITS: LHP TAYLOR TANKERSLEY has struck out 11 in 5.0 shutout innings against the Red Wings this season...Last night’s loss means the Bisons will have to wait until going to Syracuse to pick up their first road series win of the season...RHP DALE THAYER has converted eight straight save chances.
