Izzy To Arizona ?

Another report has the Arizona Cardinals VERY interested in Jason Isringhausen.

How much is a 347-year old closer worth to a team four games back in the wild card race?

You couldn't ask for a better scenario for the Mets... Izzy throws two great relief innings on national TV last night.

I don't think an aging closer is worth RHP Jarrod Parker or LHP Tyler Skaggs, but there are some interesting secondary prospects in the Arizona chain worth considering:

LHP Wade Miley - 24-yrs. old - 6-1/220... had excellent 2010 in AA:  5-2, 1.98... ETA is 2012... so far this season, he has split time in AA/AAA: 7-2, 4.48, 59-K, 96.1-IP, 36-BB.

OF Marc Kraus - 23/yrs. old - 6.-2, 235... old school slugger... 2011 in AA: .232, 12-HR, 40-RBI

LHP Pat Corbin -  22/yrs. old - 6-3/165... acquired from LAA in the Dan Haren deal... 2011 in AA:  7-5, 4.07, 104-K, 112.2-IP, only 23-BB.

LHP David Holmberg - 20-yrs. old - 6-4, 219... acquired from CWS in the Edwin Jackson deal... combined A/A+ this season: 9-4, 2.73, 103-K, 22-BB, 105.1-IP

Observation:  Izzy offers me nothing for the future, so I would trade him. I hate to go very young, but I'm love to see Holmberg in Met blue.

As soon as Carlos Beltran is traded, the semi-rebuild officially begins, and with the exception of the obvious positions that the Mets currently have no need to address, it should become a player flee market in their clubhouse. Izzy, Brydak, Carrasco, Paulino, and don't shoot me for this but even Justin Turner. Turner could be a good trading chip or even a great throw in with one of the relievers, that would increase any package that the Mets get in return. He sure hits like a major leaguer when he steps to the dish, the Mets seem committed (especially Collins) to sticking with Murphy at second base in the foreseeable future, and with Tejada in AAA there's no need for an extra backup. Justin's showed he belongs, and his bat might be extremely attractive especially considering he's under team control for the next few seasons at a great price. An Izzy and Turner package might get them a nice prospect, right? Alderson and company need, not should, need to get this team as many prospects as possible by trading the assets at their disposel. The Mets' OF talent in the minors are all currently in St. Lucie, with the exception of Den Dekker who isn't going to get anyone too excited, and a Beltran for Dominic Brown trade is just what the doctor ordered. It would be pointless to hold on to any remaining player that is not part of Alderson's future plans, and with a declining payroll next season, the Mets will be reliant on their minor league system like never before, which increases the need tremendously to trade these players and help stock the shelves.

I've read that the Mets want to keep Izzy around to work with Parnell... I can't prove that and I think it would be shortsided not to use this additional chip to help build the future
