The St. Lucie Mets returned home to Digital Domain Park Sunday afternoon after splitting a four-game series with the Tampa Yankees. St. Lucie kicked off a four-game series with the Clearwater Threshers taking game one by a score of 5-2. The win puts the Mets at 13-9 on the half and 51-41 overall.
Greg Peavey got the start for the Mets and was solid through five innings. The Mets got on the board first, RBI singles by Wilmer Flores and Cory Vaughn gave St. Lucie and early 2-0 lead. The Mets would add another run in the second inning on a David Wright RBI single making it 3-0 giving Peavey and the Mets all the run support they would need. The Threshers cut the lead to 3-1 in the third inning capitalizing on a defensive miscue, but Peavey would settle down to keep the Mets ahead. Pedro Zapata doubled in a run in the sixth inning and Cesar Puello hit a solo home run to cap off the Mets scoring in the 5-2 win.
Peavey got the win tossing five innings allowing only one unearned run on five hits with three strikeouts. Josh Edgin recorded his fourth save pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth to secure the Mets win. In his third rehab appearance with the Mets, David Wright had two hits, scored once and drove in a run. Every St. Lucie starter reached base at least once. Five players, including Wright had at least two hits for the Mets with Puello scoring twice and driving in a run on his sixth home run of the year to key the offense.
