There’s chatter that the Cleveland Indians are in play for Carlos Beltran.
Prospects the Mets may target:
RHP Alex White – innings eater… great command of fastball… turns 23 in August… was 1-0, 3.60 in three starts for the Indians earlier this season…also 1-0, 1.90 in 4 starts for AAA Columbus… currently on DL with a middle-finger strain… injured while throwing a slider… no surgery needed…
2B Jason Kipnes – average glove, great bat… good bat speed… 24-yrs. old… 2011 at AAA: .292/.376/.498/.875, 11-HR, 51-RBI
LHP Drew Pomeranz – power lefty and projected ace… 5th pick overall in the 2010 draft… 2011 AA: 3-2, 1.87, 15-starts, 95-K, 32-BB, 77.0-IP… 6-5 lefty… good luck…
C Chun Chen – outstanding 2010 season… very good defensively and great arm… power developing… .319/12-HR/69-RBI in 2010 in A+… 2011 at AA: .282/9-HR/42-RBI in first half of season.
OF Nick Weglarz – power coming along… untapped power… very patient at the plate… miserable 2011 season at AA: .188 in 96-AB… missed first two months with a knee injury… big time projected prospect has been a big time bust so far…
OF LeVon Washington – lots of tools here… played 2B in school… playing A ball in 2011: - .220/2-HR/15-RBI
Thoughts: You can dream about Pomeranz which is about as close as he’s ever going to get to wearing Mets blue. Minus the finger injury, White is MLB ready and conservatively projects as an SP3. He could step into the Mets rotation on opening day (with Johan Santana). My favorite here is catcher Chen, but you know how catcher obsessed I am.

If traded, I hope he goes to San Francisco and I hope we get Wheeler. Unless we could actually Montero from Yanks, but that seems like it would be impossible. Montero and Jimenez seem destined to be high fiving each other on their journeys to different teams.
I find it hard to believe that Baltran would okay a deal to the "mistake on the lake"...
Jason Kipnis is major league ready and is going to be a star, very soon. If there's anyone on that list I want for Beltran, it's him, and I would make a trade straight up for him. How many years have we been waiting for an everyday second baseman now?
If the Mets got Kipnes, and signed Reyes, you would have quite an infield...
this would open up Murphy to be dangled on the hook too...
RHP Alex White – Nothing wrong with an innings eater in a Giant ballpark.
2B Jason Kipnes – Yes/Please.
LHP Drew Pomeranz – Unrealistic/Yes/Please.
C Chun Chen – Powerful catcher makes sense. I actually like him a lot too.
Weglarz + Washington - No/KTHANXBYE
@ Mack, Are you going to follow up with the prospects from the other teams that might want Beltran?
Phlavio:
You will find Boston and the Giants already on the site earlier this month...
tomorrow, I am breaking out Atlanta
