St. Lucie 5, Clearwater 2

The St. Lucie Mets completed a four-game sweep of the Clearwater Threshers Wednesday night at Digital Domain Park. The 5-2 win puts the Mets at 16-9 on the second half of the season and 54-41 overall.



Scott Moviel got the start for the Mets and ran into trouble early. Three consecutive hits to lead off the game put the Mets in an early 1-0 hole. Cory Vaughn answered in a big way hitting his fourth home run to even the score 1-1 after two innings. Trailing 2-1 in the sixth inning, Jefry Marte doubled in David Wright to tie the game and Stefan Welch singled in Wilmer Flores giving St. Lucie a 3-2 lead which they would not give up. In the seventh inning, Juan Lagares doubled in a run and scored on a wild pitch capping off the scoring at 5-2.

Scott Moviel got the win improving to 5-7 on the season. Moviel was solid through 6.2 innings allowing only two runs while scattering eight hits and striking out three. David Wright reached base four times going 2-for-2 at the plate scoring a run and walking twice. Jefry Marte also had two hits for the Mets. Jeff Kaplan tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief and Josh Edgin worked around two hits to close out his fifth save of the season.

The St. Lucie Mets head to Viera to take on the Brevard County Manatees Thursday night. Armando Rodriguez gets the start for the Mets. Rodriguez is 2-2 with a 3.14 ERA in nine starts for the Mets. Rodriguez has struck out 50 while walking 20 and is holding opposing batters to a .195 average in 43 innings of work.
