After dropping game one of the their four-game series, the St. Lucie Mets bounced back to defeat the Ft. Myers Miracle 9-2 Tuesday night at Digital Domain Park. The 9-2 win puts the Mets at 7-4 on the second half of the season, 45-36 overall.
Armando Rodriguez got the start for the Mets and was solid through five innings keeping the Miracle scoreless until the sixth inning. The Mets got on the board first in the first inning. Pedro Zapata doubled to lead off followed by a walk to Juan Lagares. A sacrifice fly by Stefan Welch scored Zapata and Wilmer Flores singled in Lagares to put the Mets up 2-0 early. The Miracle would chase Rodriguez from the game in the sixth inning scoring twice as the first five batters reached base in the frame. St. Lucie answered right back in the bottom of the inning. Dock Doyle hit his first home run, a solo shot and Jefry Marte drove in a run to give the Mets a 4-2 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. A five-run seventh inning put the game well out of reach as Lagares had a bases loaded triple and Marte doubled in a run to make it a 9-2 game.
Armando Rodriguez got the no-decision tossing 5.1 innings allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts. Estarlin Morel and Josh Edgin combined to go the final 2.2 innings of shutout relief. Juan Lagares had two hits, scored twice and drove in three to lead the Mets. Six Mets players had at least two hits in the win, including four off the bat of Pedro Zapata. Jefry Marte drove in a pair and Rylan Sandoval and Dock Doyle both scored twice and had an RBI each.
The Mets continue their series with the Ft. Myers Miracle Wednesday night at Digital Domain Park. Greg Peavey will make his third start for the Mets since being called up from Savannah. The right hander is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA. He has recorded three strikeouts while walking three with opposing hitters batting .243 against him in ten innings with St. Lucie.
