A near no-hitter by Gary Gentry, a 9th inning tie braking HR by Paul Lo Duca, and a 17 inning loss to the Giants in front of a packed house at Shea, all part of the games the Mets have played on May 13th.

National Pastime.com:  With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning at Wrigley Field, Gary Gentry gives up his only hit, a short fly hit by Ernie Banks that outfielder Dave Marshall gets a glove on, but he cannot hold on to the ball. The 23 year-old Mets right-hander settles for a one-hit complete game 4-0 victory over Chicago but could have been the first hurler in franchise history to throw a no-hit game if official scorer Jim Enright had ruled differently on the blooper to left field.

Art Shamsky hit a HR and Wayne Garrett went 2 for 3 (double and a triple) with an RBI and 2 runs scored for the Mets offense.

Matt is still Matt.

The Dark Knight guy. (Oh boy)

On the Mets side. Pitching, Pitching, Pitching.

Taijuan Walker is incredible.

His 3-1 record, 2.20 ERA and in 41 innings. He has only surrendered just 1 HR and 18 walks in this time. This young pitcher may be a one starter one day, it's within his reach. It's very possible and up to him now.

But there is more good news from the Mets starters.

Franklyn Kilome and Thomas Szapucki are getting game time work in now. Szapucki starts today against Worcester. This team could use all the good lefty pitchers they can get. I think Thomas will definitely be one. To me, having at least two of Syracuse's best pitchers ready to go for the Mets second half could prove itself vitally important just in case there could be more arm injuries or setbacks incurred. It would help to sustain a run in other words.

I like this 2021 NY Mets team. A lot. Each and every guy on it. I see the talent, team chemistry, effort, drive, determination, and the hunger that championship teams are always made of.

Kilome looked good last night in 4 innings. He needs to build up innings after 2 years of light work after Tommy John. I think it took Wheeler 3 years to come back.

John:

Wheels to me is the one pitcher lost from the Mets that I wish was not. He just had that totally flawless pitching mechanics that tells me he'll be around for a longtime still in MLB. And winning.

On my radar screen for pitching here and hopefully this season are: Szapucki, Kilome, Drew Smith, and Gonzales.

In fact, I was just told by the Syracuse Manager Chad Kreuter...Harol Gonzales had Tommy John surgery last week...out for year.
