2011

Bill Gallo, the creator of colorful characters such as General Von Steingraber, a caricature of the late George Steinbrenner, and Basement Bertha, who radiated good-humored optimism for the fans of the fledgling Mets, dies from complications of pneumonia at the age of 88. The cartoonist's final published drawing, which appeared last month in the Daily News, his employer for seven decades, featured Bertha window shopping with the hope of being invited to the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine.

 Baseball Reference:

Who needs Jacob deGrom when we have Jacob Barnes? Sure, Barnes needs 16 pitches to strike someone out and deGrom needs just 3, but they get to the same place, right?

And I hear Jacob Rhame is available, too.

The Mets will be fine with Jake out for a while, if the Mets' hitters can start hitting. When I see Freeman and Tatis each have 9 HRs, a real, sustained outburst from Smith and Lindor can cover a multitude of deficiencies.

Jacob Rhame is available but while I first thought the Mets should pass due to his lack of minor league options, etc. Syracuse looks like they could use the help.

Tom, last year they hit and hit and finished eight under.

John, the problem with Syracuse is their starting rotation is in New York City.

Good point Gus plus Megill should be in Syracuse. Plus, Oswalt and Gonzalez are on the IL. Tarpley, Zamora, and Hildenberger have struggled the most these past few days.

Now for the harsh reality: Scranton Wilkes-Barre is the AAA minor league team of the Yankees, and pretty stocked with talent. So, you have a good team facing a weakened pitching staff. This may be corrected by month’s end, but the Syracuse players will need to carry a bigger load.

On the other hand, I absolute love these six game series and said last year that MLB should switch to five game series. There is no reason for all this travel. Good for the minor league players that will now not have the ridiculousness of a side show carnival traveling schedule.

Just thought of something else John: As Lugo, Syndergaard, and Carrasco start their rehabs, since the MLB team is fine, they won’t rush ans so there is a chance each will have multiple starts in Syracuse giving a big boost ans much excitement to the team and fan base.
