SNY.TV: Jacob deGrom strikes out eight in three innings during St. Lucie rehab start. “Ace hit 102 mph on the radar gun while not allowing a hit…The right-hander threw 41 pitches over his three hitless innings of work, 30 of which were strikes.”

Mike Puma NY Post: “The Mets will now decide a next step for deGrom, who was placed on the injured list May 10 with right-side tightness. The team originally hoped deGrom would return this weekend, but opted to send him for the rehab start so he could focus on mechanics.”

When Dae-Sung Koo bats against Randy Johnson, Mike Piazza confides to David Wright in the dugout, "If he gets a hit, I'll donate a million dollars to charity." The Korean reliever, batting lefty off the Yankee fire-balling southpaw and who was afraid to stand in the batter's box in a previous game, promptly hits a 91-mph fastball to the wall in center for a double, causing the Mets catcher to remark he'll be making a significant donation to a charity over the next 20 years.

"It's been a lot of negative stuff going on around here and I've been feeling some of that and I was just expressing how I felt at the time, but it wasn't anything to do with race. I wasn't trying to bring race into it. I probably should have thought more about what I was going to say." - Mets manager Willie Randolph

Willie Randolph apologizes for his negative remarks concerning SNY's coverage of him as the Mets skipper. The first black major league manager hired in New York had brought up race when asked about the way he is being portrayed by the team's TV network.

Baseball Reference:

1975 - The Reds, entering the game with a 20-20 record, five games behind the first-place Dodgers, come from behind to beat Tom Seaver and the Mets, 11 - 4. Cincinnati will go on to win 41 of 50 games and run away with the National League West title.

2012 - Brandon Morrow pitches a three-hit shutout for the Blue Jays, who beat the Mets, 2 - 0. Morrow is now 5-2 with a pair of shutouts and a 2.63 ERA after signing a long-term contract in the off-season.

Who did we trade Kevin Smith for? Slips my mind.

Gosh, Alvarez is an offensive force. Hopefully a great Met by this time in 2022.

Vientos showing some signs of life. 5 for 11 over the past 3 games pushes average over the Lindor Line up to the McCann Line. Forget that Mendoza guy.

We traded Smith for Castro...not the worst trade but Smith with be the Ace of Syracuse and maybe even pitching this weekend for the Mets if he was still here.

Yes, Vientos getting used to AA...they moved him down in the lineup and then he started to hit.

Alvarez needs to be promoted to Brooklyn or maybe even Binghamton sooner than later. I think he has out grown Low A. First two batters in St. Lucie lineup each K'd 3 times...Alvarez...no Ks.

Glad to see the Mets stick with Newton and he seems to be coming around. Has missed two out of the last three years and his development has been severely stunted.

Drury meeting the team in Miami is not a good sign. How far away is JD Davis that they brought up a .100 hitter instead?

Mechanics? From a guy that “keeps perfect mechanics even in long toss”? It keeps getting stupider. Meanwhile, they need three relievers to cover the first four innings of a game and have no starters...

Gus - JD is either very close or had a setback like Nimmo did. Unlike Nimmo who was slated to play 3 games in Syracuse before being shut down after feeling discomfort, no plan was announced for JD other than the two games he played. Hopefully he is in Miami and back on field.
