NY Post: Insane inning, review save Mets in wild win over Phillies. “Somehow, the Mets survived the ninth. Rhys Hoskins appeared to hit a game-tying homer off Edwin Diaz with two outs, but the call was overturned by a crew chief’s review…In a huge eighth inning, the Mets sent 10 batters to the plate and savaged the Phillies bullpen, including Jose Alvarado — who earlier in the day was suspended three games (he is appealing) for his role in inciting the benches to empty Friday night.”

Brian Joura Mets360: “In a game where both teams had Win Expectancy rates of 89% or greater in the late innings, the hero of the game was … Jeurys Familia! After Edwin Diaz tried his best to lose the game in the 9th inning, Familia came on with the tying run on second base and got the final out of the game” (Subscription required).

Newsday: McCutchen's 16th career leadoff homer to dead center off David Peterson put Philadelphia in front in the first. But Peterson settled in, striking out eight in five innings…Conforto had three hits and two RBIs for New York, and McNeil finished with four hits and scored two runs. Jacob Barnes (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning for the win.

Next Game: Mets (11-11) @ Cardinals (15-12), 7:45 pm

Mets: TBD

STL: Adam Wainwright (#50, 39, RHP, 0-3, 4.08)

SNY.TV: Mets' Dom Smith, Miguel Castro fined for on-field incident with Phillies reliever Jose Alvarado. Alvarado received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for inciting the benches-clearing incident.

Brooklyn Cyclones Broadcaster Keith Raad looked at how the Staten Island Yankees have moved to Wappingers Falls to become the Hudson Valley Renegades and notes that: “This year, the Cyclones (read: Mets) and the Renegades (read: Yankees) will meet 30 times….Brooklyn hosts Hudson Valley May 18–23, June 8–13, and August 3–8, while traveling up the Taconic July 6–11, August 17–22, and September 7–12.”

2008

With his three-run blast at Chase Field off Diamondbacks' ace Brandon Webb, Carlos Delgado moves ahead of Juan Gonzalez as the home run leader for players born in Puerto Rico. The Mets' first baseman's 435th career home run places the Aguadilla native 36th on the all-time major league list.

2014

The Mets set the record for the longest hitless streak by a major league pitching staff to start a season when Jenrry Mejia grounds out to second, making the New York hurlers, collectively, 0-for-46 since Opening Day. The dubious mark, previously established by the 1914 St. Louis Browns, will be extended to 64 at-bats before Jacob deGrom, in his first major league plate appearance, singles off Yankee right-hander Chase Whitley.

2015

The Nationals blank the Mets at Citi Field, 1-0, on consecutive days, marking the first time in 19 years that a road opponent has recorded 1-0 victories against the same team on back-to-back days. The Cardinals last accomplished the feat in 1996 when they held the Phillies scoreless, scoring lone runs in the April 19 and 20th contests at Veterans Stadium.

All this major league BB is nice but I am ready for some of the minor league stuff, without the usual zero degree upstate temperatures.

Diaz was tight? I will give him a pass. Just one, though.

Castro pitch to Didi all of us could have walloped.

Hoskins HR like 1969 HR that didn’t go out against the Mets, sparking a surge? Ready for Surge II.

Hope for a surge. Cardinals are good though. It is going to be a tough series. Sunday Night Baseball should not be scheduled for t4eams that have to travel and play the next day. How does a team play a quality game when they get to the next town around 4 AM?

Singles and doubles and heads-up baserunning won this one. I do remember mentioning that Villar could be that type of player about a month ago. Seems like they win when he plays more. Just sayin'.

Where's our Detroit? Yanks got healthy against patsies.

Villar has energy and talent.

It looks like the "Pigroast" thing actually worked. Knew it.

Player Personnel

Pillar and Villar.

Similarly spelt names, both excellent sparkplug energy players. Can change the tempo of games when inserted. To even merengue I tell ya'!

I think the player personnel mix here is fine, but a smart team always has emergency contingency plans assembled in the event that a really key player gets hurt (like for instance here catcher Harry Chiti in 1962) so that their remains a solid flow consistency of play.

The focus of these plans (right now) should I think be made on starting pitching, where currently minus Noah, Candy, and Marcus.

BTW: Where is Thomas Szapucki? Is he healthy and getting ready somewhere?

Nice outing for David Peterson I thought. Eight K's in five innings. He seems to be back on track since JLo got back.

Peterson nice. Szapucki should be the opening day starter tomorrow for Syracuse?
