St. Lucie - Mets, Tortugas Split Pair of Games on Thursday

Tortugas win suspended game 15-2, Mets rebound for 2-0 win in extras

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 13, 2021) – The St. Lucie Mets and Daytona Tortugas split a pair of games on Thursday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

The teams resumed Wednesday’s suspended game with Daytona leading 2-0. The Tortugas piled on and ran away with a 15-2 win in nine innings. The Mets rebounded for a 2-0 win in eight innings in the second game.

The night cap was scoreless through seven innings before heading to extras. In the eighth the Mets pushed two runs across on great base running from Jose Peroza and LT Struble.

Peroza started the inning on second base as the free runner. He was advanced to third on a bunt by Ranfy Adon. Struble worked a walk and quickly stole second base. After oversliding second, Struble kept the attention of second baseman Tyler Callihan long enough to let Peroza break home from third base. Peroza slid in safely as Callihan’s throw skipped away to the backstop. Struble never stopped running and also scored to make it 2-0.

Austin Faith was credited with the win. He threw three perfect innings of relief with four strikeouts.

Reyson Santos got the save. He retired all three batters he faced in the bottom of the eighth. Faith and Santos combined to throw just 40 pitches, including 34 for strikes.

Starter Junior Santos was impressive as well. He logged four shutout innings and scattered three singles while walking one and striking out five.

The Mets (6-3) and Tortugas (5-4) return to a regularly scheduled nine-inning game on Friday. First pitch at Jackie Robinson Ballpark is set for 7:05 p.m.
