Joel Sherman NY Post: Mets, Kumar Rocker have understanding in place for contract. The Mets and their No. 1 pick Kumar Rocker already have an understanding in place for a $6 million signing bonus, sources told The Post…Rocker was available with the No. 10 pick and the Mets agreed to go beyond the slot recommendation of $4.74 million. ‘It was about a war to get him down [to 10th] because we felt the Mets were a good pick for him and a good environment,’ Scott Boras, Rocker’s agent, told The Post.”

1977
With New York third baseman Lenny Randle at the plate in the sixth inning, Shea Stadium goes dark when the Big Apple suddenly experiences a blackout. Before the game against the Cubs is suspended due to the power shortage, the Mets' players drive their cars onto the field and amuse the crowd by performing a variety of antics in front of the headlights. (My thanks to Anthony Ventarola for submitting this event).

1975 - The Reds score four runs in the 8th inning to defeat Tom Seaver and the Mets, 5 - 3. The Reds have won 41 of their last 50 games.

1977 - At Shea Stadium, the Cubs' game is suspended due to a major black-out which darkens New York City. The Mets players amuse the crowd by performing antics in front of the headlights of cars which they drive onto the field.

2001: Mets C Mike Piazza hits his 300th career home run in New York's 3 - 1 loss to Boston.

2012Chipper Jones ties Mike Schmidt for second place on the all-time list for RBI by a third baseman, knocking in his 1,595th run with a homer in Atlanta's 7 - 5 win over the Mets. Jones is now one RBI behind George Brett among players who played the majority of their careers at the hot corner. C David Ross filling in for Brian McCann, who is on paternity leave, drives in 4 runs for the Braves, who also benefit from 11 walks issued by New York pitchers.

My parents and I were listening to the game in the car on a drive home from Manhattan when the blackout hit ... what a crazy couple of nights.

Do they have to pay Rocker $6MM? Is he really turning down $4.75MM to go back to school? I know Boras has done that before with Appel, and Appel was then #1 with the Phillies…

Can we trade Pete Alonso right now, while somebody thinks he will just keep up his big persona results?

The read up on those arms is pretty intriguing, until the tenth rounder. Can they jump on that lefty Gage now, and overpay him?

I would jump for Gage Jump. I am also coo coo for Cocoa Puffs. I love catchy phrases and names.

I did suggest Pete Alonso for Bryan Reynolds. Most people preferred the Big Fly Guy.

Kumar Rocker = Lee Majors. I wonder if he could have taken $5.7 million and not gone back to school. Somewhere, I can picture Steve Cohen saying, "He's THAT good? Pay him."
