Mack - 2022 MLB Draft Scouting Report - 1B/OF Spencer Jones

Spencer Jones

1B      6-7     205

2021 Vandy stat line - 34-G, 94-AB, .274/.346/.421, 10-HR

 Mack's spin -

Jones is the number one first baseman in this draft. He also plays the corner outfield positions.

I think Fueled By Sports is overreaching here. Jones will not go 1.1 in this draft.

I have him as a solid round 2 pick.

OF

Spencer Jones (Vanderbilt)

Spencer Jones has seen inconsistent playing time at Vandy over the last two seasons, mostly due to injury, so the Cape was an opportunity for him to showcase his toolset. To say that he's athletic is an understatement. At 6-foot-7, 225 pounds., Jones is an above average runner with easy plus power, and flashes playmaking ability in center field. At the plate, he posted a .312/.424/.481 slash with three homers. Plain and simple, he's a unicorn, and with that distinction comes a world of potential outcomes that result in Jones playing a significant role at the highest level. Cutting down on swing and miss and establishing a performance track record in SEC play will be key for him in 2022.

Spencer Jones, 1B, Vanderbilt

Jones doesn’t get enough love, and I don’t know why. That changes in 2022. He’ll be a focal point in Vanderbilt’s lineup and we’ll see just how special this kid is. In high school he was a big time two-way player in the form of a Brendan McKay. He’s barrels the ball with ease and can even play outfield, if needed.

 #17

Spencer Jones 1B/LHP 21.2 6' 7" 205 L L

The game was too fast for Jones during his freshman foray. I'm still betting on his unusual athleticism for his size. He could bust out as a hitter or pitcher but he likely won't pitch in 2021 due to TJ recovery. He's on the Ohtani post-surgery regimen.

21. Spencer Jones - 1B

Bio:

Height: 6-7

Weight: 212 lbs

Hits/Throws: L-L

Hometown: Encinitas, California

School: Vanderbilt

Arguably the biggest slugger in the 2022 class was shutdown in 2020 with Tommy John surgery. Was a pitcher as well, though he's likely destined to hit moving forward. Limited athleticism, but could have the rare plus hit, plus power profile.

Seems Vientos would be a better 1B
