Mack - Draft Thoughts: Andrew Healy, Emaarion Boyd, Gavin Weir, Cooper Hjerpe, Termarr Johnson

Mack -  LHP Frank Mazzicato skyrocketed up the draft and looked, to me, to be the late minute surprise in the 2021 draft. Any idea on a dark horse first rounder this year?

Joe - Mozzicato didn't really pop until February 2021, so we're still way, way out from that sort of pop-up skyrocket. That said, keep an eye on Andrew Healy from Glen Mills, PA.

 Mack's spin -

A snippet from my interview with Joe Doyle earlier this week.

Joe really threw this one out at me. I looked him up and he is a shortstop out of a small college, MidAmerica Nazarene U.

Mad stat line - 57-G, 183-AB, .393/.456/.705/1.161, 12-HR, 55-RBI

We will keep an eye out for more ink.

8-21-21 - Perfect Game All-American Classic  @PGAllAmerican

Emaarion Boyd (MS) driving balls well to both gaps, easy jump off the barrel w/ extension out in front.

                    Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

So much Lorenzo Cain in Mari Boyd

 Mack's spin -

One of the best defensive centerfielders in the draft.

A 6.56-second 60-yard dash at PG National

6,55  at East Coast Pro

Fir this reason alone , we have him currently as out 16th OFer.

8-20-21 - Joe Doyle  @JoeDoyleMiLB

This Sioux Falls, South Dakota 12-year-old LHP Gavin Weir is going to be a big leaguer some day and it's really not a debate.

            Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Gavin Weir is pitching in the opening round right now. He still hasn't allowed a hit in the entire tournament.

18 innings   42 strikeouts   0 hits allowed   1 walk

 Mack's spin -

WHAT?

Are we drafting 12 year olds now?

Of cource not, but I thought you would enjoy a quick glance at the future of baseball.

8-16-21 - Prospects Live - Pacific Northwest Prospects -

COOPER HJERPE

LHP      Oregon State

Hjerpe is a polished lefty with a low-90s heater, a cutter, a slider and a changeup. He presents a ton of funk from a low three-quarters delivery that doesn’t require too much effort. Definitely starter characteristics here moving forward. He limits walks and gets a ton of swing-and-miss, a bit of a prerequisite when it comes to hearing one’s name called at the top of any draft. He's been a mainstay in the Oregon State rotation since arriving to campus as a true freshman and represents one of the more consistent forces in the class. That said, he's certainly a pitch over "stuff" arm with some traditional starter characteristics. Hjerpe misses bats, limits his walks and knows how to pitch. He’s a pitch-over-stuff guy right now, though his 6-foot-2-inch frame is beginning to fill out. Scouts are eager to see whether an uptick in stuff is in the cards for the Capay, Calif. Native in 2022.

2021 Oregon State stat line - 17-G, 16-ST, 3-6, 4.21, 1.17, 77-IP, 98-K

Mack's spin -

Cooper is targeted to be the Friday starter for the Ducks.

Love his 1.17-WHIP

I look for a good year on 2022 for him.

Currently on my board as the 12th LHP.

8-5-21 - Prospects Live

Termarr Johnson

Termarr Johnson has earned a top notch nickname of “Captain Bat Speed” among us here at Prospects Live and that moniker was surely on display in the Trop. Johnson was in the last group of BP during his workout day and put on a show for the scouts and evaluators in attendance by launching multiple balls over the right field bleachers. The somehow still uncommitted star decided to follow up his batting practice performance with HR in game, taking a 93 MPH fastball about 10 rows deep into RF. Johnson has some of the most outrageous advanced data in the class in terms of his Blast motion and Diamond Kinetics numbers and could easily have the best hands in the class. Termarr is quickly earning first name only status, and you could argue that it could be the most polished high school bat with a 60/60 hit/power ceiling.

Mack's spin -

Remains solidly as my pick at 1.2.
