PRESS RELEASE: STATEMENT FROM METS PRESIDENT SANDY ALDERSON

STATEMENT FROM METS PRESIDENT SANDY ALDERSON

In a post-game press conference today, Javy Baez stated that his "thumbs down" gesture during the game was a message to fans who recently have booed him and other players for poor performance. These comments, and any gestures by him or other players with a similar intent, are totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Mets fans are understandably frustrated over the team's recent performance. The players and the organization are equally frustrated, but fans at Citi Field have every right to express their own disappointment. Booing is every fan's right.

The Mets will not tolerate any player gesture that is unprofessional in its meaning or is directed in a negative way toward our fans. I will be meeting with our players and staff to convey this message directly.

Mets fans are loyal, passionate, knowledgeable and more than willing to express themselves. We love them for every one of these qualities.

This is disgusting. My initial re@cation follows

1) Baez should be a very short timer in the orange and blue. Here is a player who makes millions, who hasn’t produced offensively since he came to the Mets and he has a problem with the BOOS? Get a life and grow up. Maybe the Cub fans accepted mediocrity but here in NY you
Need to produce for the money you make.

2) Lindor is a failure so far. He signed a huge contract , he was billed as an key offensive piece to turn things around for this franchise. He has failed miserably. Maybe the big city is not for him. Unfortunately we signed a long term contract with him. Maybe we can send him back to the American League.

Maybe we can get Rosario b@ck

Here is what I think should happen tomorrow -

1. Release Baez - he is gone at the end of the year anyway.

2. Suspend Lindor. Star or not, big contract or not. Mets need to send a message.

3. Suspend Pillar - also sends a message. (He is signed for next year or I'd say release him.)

4. Fire Rojas. If he didn't know what was going on - fire him. If he knew but played ignorance - fire him. I like Luis - I think the front office is more to blame for this mess - but think this is the final straw on a pitiful month of August.

Is Baez kidding?
"
To piss off your fans because of their reaction to your offensive shortcomings is very immature. I can see the Mets not making an offer come seasons end and rightfully so.

Regarding Lindor, the fact that he’s following Baezs lead on this thumbs down nonsense speaks volumes. Could be, he’s not the leader we’ve been told about him. Maybe a haicut is in order.

Welcome to the Big city - don't think a number of these Mets can make it here.

This can’t be what they meant when talking about building a clubhouse culture.
I WAS wondering what the thumbs down signal meant when they finally got on base.
I wish I was recording which guys weren’t participating with that.
Nimmo?
Pete?
I hope not.
I am curious which guys opted out or wouldn’t be bullied into dissing the fans.
