Tom Brennan - Arizona Fall League Update; and Choking Thoughts

Somewhere, true, stalwart Mets organization players press onward.

That "somewhere" is in Arizona.

Through Monday's action, I am happy and pleased to say that there are some good Mets' prospects' hitting reports.

Kevin Kendall, an IF who Mr. Deeds reminded me had a wicked good .327 debut for St Lucie in 2021, but then missed most of 2022, is 8 for 20 with 5 walks and a HR in the early portion of the AFL season.  Kevin Kendall Ken Play, Dawg.

Stanley Consuegra is just 1 for 5, but that "1" was a 3 run blast.  Oliver Hardy is pumped about Stanley.

Brandon McIlwain in his first 10 at bats has hit for the cycle - single, double, triple, HR. "Let's Go Brandon."

Only Luke Ritter was scuffling at 2 for 17 and no walks.  Throw out all your James McCann hitting tapes, Luke.

 - All 5 must be thinking, "I can hit better than Darin Ruf." Who can argue?

Pitching?  Not as good, folks.

Franklin Sanchez, Mike Vasil, Christian Scott, Grant Hartwig and Josh Walker had thrown 10.2 combined innings and allowed 14 runs.  Sanchez, of the 5, has done the best: 2 innings, 1 run allowed.

Sanchez the best of breed so far, with 2 innings, just 1 run allowed.

May a cactus rise up to meet you.  Have a prickly day.

P.S. Mets' request for team name change approved!

NEWSFLASH!!

League just approved the team’s new name: the New York Chokers.

In 20+ years, they’ve choked every time.

In 2015, they got to the series, were favored, and choked.

In 2016, one game wild card…choked.

This year, 10.5 game lead.  Choked.

They choked to the Phillies down the stretch despite big leads heading into Sept…choked.

In 2006, they were heavily favored against the Cardinals…choked.

Against the Yankees in the World Series of 2000…choked.

In 1988, against the Dodgers, whom they beat 11 of 12 in the regular season…choked.

In 1986, didn’t choke, but very nearly choked, despite going into the series the strong odds-on favorite.

In 1973, led the World Series 3 games to 2…choked.

Only in 1969 were they totally choke-free. One non-choke in 61 seasons.

Yanks, of course, took care of business last night.  They choke at times, but far less.

The Mets are Dr. Heimlich's favorite team. Until proven otherwise.

Kendall, however, was 0-5 with 3 Ks last night, which considering he is in the AFL after just 40 pro games is quite understandable. Scott and Hartwig had bad nights on the bump. Pitching has struggled a lot so far.

Thanks for supplying the AFL results year after year.

So,if you lose a game or a series you’re a choker?

Woodrow, I presented the facts and drew my conclusion. Conclusions are subjective, and you are fully entitled to conclude differently. I ran it by my brother, who 100% agreed, for what that might or might not be worth to you.

Keeping it to 2022…when you have the superior team and all 3 games are at home, and you lose with a 3rd game whimper, the word that rhymes with “broke” absolutely applies.

They shrunk from the spotlight…….tomato/tomahto, I suppose.

San Diego certainly had the Mets’ number, but the Mets’ problems over the last month ran deeper, IMO. They were talented, but when the big names faltered, the team folded like a circus tent. It still boggles the mind that Max/Jake/Bassitt were lined up in Atlanta and at home against SD, yet they went 1-5 across the six games.

Maybe this experience will serve them well moving forward? That and getting more players who hate to lose, instead of meekly going into the night when things get stressful (Bassitt comes to mind).

In 69' My Jets won the SB.. I got married.. We landed on the moon and My Mets won the WS and at 22 my whole life was just ahead of me and we were on a roll. Well the marriage worked out 53 and counting and the moon thing kinda worked out too but the Jets and Mets oh well you can't win em all but Chokers is spot on. I guess embarrassing would work too and laughing stock applies and I'm REALLY tired of it and hope Stevie gets it as well because as great as everything looked even a few weeks ago wow did it come crashing down. I'm with Mike in that I too can't believe we had it all set up for both series and only went 1 and 5. The big question now is whats next and I'd love to know what SC thinks about all this. Boy would Aaron look good in RF and I still can't believe the Yankees let it go this far. For me thats the big move Steve if you really want to rock the NY baseball world AND MLB world right to its core. I still haven't gotten over Straw Doc and Coney in pinstripes an unforgiveable sin in my mind or whats left of it :)

Ray, yes it was missing something. I saw a co-worker today who is a huge Mets fan, he felt the same way.

Mike, I am past the point of them learning something - just win some really big, vital games. That's why I zero in on Jake hitting one batter in 2020-22. He's too nice, and there are consequences.

Nice guys may not finish last, but they rarely finish first.

Gary, Judge has to be considered for an offer.
