Bay’s Knees:
Bay is fine with all of it. He just needs to clear up one lingering issue: His knees are not on the verge of collapse.
This is a matter of huge concern to the Mets, who lost virtually most of their stars in 2009 to injury and are without Carlos Beltran until May. The Mets’ medical staff misdiagnosed Beltran and Jose Reyes last summer and still owes Ryan Church an apology for allowing him to board a coast-to-coast flight after being diagnosed with a concussion in 2008.
So for Bay to say he’s healthy isn’t just a spring formality — it cuts to a core issue for him, the Mets and his former employers, the Red Sox. Ever since he joined the Mets, Bay has been denying a whispering campaign about his knees, which started when the Red Sox insisted he undergo surgery as a prerequisite to a new contract this offseason. - link
Mike Pelfrey:
Mets manager Jerry Manuel was pleased that Pelfrey didn’t get rattled when Washington used an error to score a first-inning run and then went up 4-2 on Eric Bruntlett’s(notes) three-run homer. Instead, Pelfrey finished strong.
“The first inning, he got some ground balls that could have got us out of that,” Manuel said. “The second inning was OK. The third inning was outstanding. I thought the third inning, he finally felt comfortable. … That’s the Mike Pelfrey we need.”
Pelfrey turned to his new split-finger offering early on, shattering two bats in the first inning and keeping the Nationals off balance.
“I think it was good. I think I surprised them a little,” he said. - link
Angel Pagan:
Just put the radio on and tuned into the Mets v. Nats game.Angel Pagan comes up, the score is 5-4 Mets, there are 2 outs and no one on...he hits a rope to the deep gap.Now guess what happens: A) He smartly stands up at second with an easy double, prolonging the inning and putting himself in scoring position. B) He tries for the two out triple and gets thrown out to end the inning - link
-hey, don't shoot the messenger....
Mejia To Minors:
Not sure who makes the hype more the media or the Mets but they do have lighting in the bottle in pitcher Jenry Mejia...
A couple of months ago Mejia couldnt find the strike zone in the Arizona fall league and had an ERA that suggested he was not ready. The kid has talent but he needs to not have in his head that he is heading down to the minors so when he doesnt make the team he doesnt have his confidence broken. Just ask a kid like Nick Evans.
The Nats:
With so much talent at the top of their farm, a team can only be a laughing stock for so long. By the end of the year, Stephen Strasburg should be ready to take over as the ace of one of the most talented young staffs in baseball, and the Nationals' talent pool doesn't start and end with pitching, either. Add the riches of another good draft to the roster (Bryce Harper, anyone?) and the Nationals could have a young superstar at almost every position on the diamond by the middle of the decade. This is a team that should be moving up in the standings, and soon - link
