David Wright, Orel, Nails, Fram System Ranking... and Jenrry Mejia

David Wright:

We have obviously reached the point in modern-day sports that we know what we see. So when a guy shows up to camp looking like Superman after looking like Robin for the past 2 years, we understand the story.

When I first saw David Wright’s physique this spring, I did a double-take. Then after I let it sink in for several minutes, it became very easy to understand. Wright is under a ton of pressure to boost his power this year after an embarrassing campaign (for his standards) in 2009. If he were a 2nd place hitter, those 10 home runs would have looked fine to go along with all of his other production. However, Wright has built a reputation that depicts him as a middle of the order hitter with 25-plus home run power. - link

Orel Hershiser:

The network hasn’t announced it officially, but Orel Hershiser has been added to the ESPN “Sunday Night Baseball” booth, replacing Steve Phillips, who was fired last fall. The source: Jon Miller, who begins his 21st season as play-by-play voice for the package. He mentioned it today during a spring training broadcast with Seattle Mariners announcers Rick Rizzs and Dave Niehaus - link

Nails:

Former Phillies star Lenny Dykstra—who last year filed for bankruptcy, saw his home (bought from Wayne Gretzky) foreclosed on, and auctioned off his 1986 World Series ring—is back in the stock-picking game. He’s selling a year’s worth of investment advice—including three weekly forecasts, a monthly conference call and a signed baseball—for $999. “Although Dykstra is NOT a registered financial adviser, stock broker or the like, his proven track record has caught the attention of many,” according to the biography on his new Web site - link

Jenrry Mejia:

Like Davis, Mejia doesn’t exactly have a plethora of talent blocking him. The Mets are in disarray both in the pen and in the rotation. While Mejia is seen as a reliever at this point in his development (like Joba or Phil Hughes for the Yanks), he has the capability to be a starter. In the pen, he’s competing with the likes of Kelvim Escobar (starting the year on the DL), and a slew of solid but unspectacular guys like Sean Green, Pat Misch, Nelson Figueroa, Ryota Igarashi, and Bobby Parnell. And he’s blocked from the rotation by Mike Pelfrey and Oliver Perez (head cases), John Maine (injury prone), and Jon Niese and Fernando Nieve (unproven). Not exactly a tall stack that he has to climb. - link
