Ike Davis, Gary Mathews Jr., Mets Success, Top Mets Prospects... and Bring Ike North

Ike Davis:

Watching Ike Davis totally blast a baseball out of the park with the bases drunk today, is definitely worth a second look.

It kind of makes you feel tingly all over doesn’t it? Is it too far-fetched to envision having another David Wrightesque player manning first base for the rest of this decade?

I haven’t been this excited about an upcoming Mets prospect since… well since David Wright.- link

Gary Mathews Jr.

A Reds source told John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer Thursday evening that the Reds have "zero" interest in Gary Matthews Jr. ESPN.com's Buster Olney said earlier that the Reds are tracking Matthews Jr., just in case he fails to make the Mets' Opening Day roster and is let go. Fay's source listed five outfielders that the Reds would rather have, though, so it sounds like the Olney rumor has no legs. Matthews Jr., 36 this season, posted a measly 697 OPS in 316 at-bats for Anaheim last season. - link

Mets Success:

Much of what dominates Mets talk and is bandied about is whether the Mets will have a successful season in ‘10. Can Big Pelf live up to his “potential”? (Don’t you just love that word?) Will Reyes be his old self or even better? Can the #3 through #5 pitchers keep us in games consistently? So many questions, so much time. I am opting to look outside of these norms and explore another route. Numbers and records suggest that the Mets have done historically better when they do well in their division. Inter-league and NL numbers combined cover approximately half of the games they play in a 162 game season.  -  link

Bring Ike North:

I like Dan Murphy, I like Mike Jacobs. I love Ike Davis. The Mets many times this off season let us down as a fan base. They shouldn’t be so shortsighted and let us down again…

The biggest question to be answered at 1st base is not ‘Is Ike ready?’ It’s why don’t the Mets realize he’s ready? Surely if Dan Murphy was ready in ‘09, Ike Davis is ready in ‘10.

Many times I’ve told others that the Mets have way more talent on the farm than they are given credit for.

The Mets make that argument themselves, saying their minor leagues have more talent than most scouts think. It’s time to be bold. Bring Ike Davis north and prove it. - link

-did you love him when he made the error? Go ask Mike Jacobs... one home run doesn't make a first baseman....
