The Needle, Catalanotto vs Pridie, HDH & Hyperthyroidism, Wathen on Mejia... and Mets Meds

The Needle:

Before leaving for the split squad game in Jupiter, Jeff Francoeur took out his clubhouse needle and helped - yes, helped - rookie Ike Davis deal with his recent defensive lapses. Francoeur wouldn't have attacked Davis if the young first baseman weren't a skilled defender or if he thought Davis couldn't handle the barbs.

"Ike Davis," Francoeur said. "Twenty-one-old DH. We've got to get you to the American League before your ruin your reputation. A DH at the rip old age of 21 [Davis turns 23 later this month]. He hits a grand slam, but he makes an error everyday. Let's go, DH." - link

Catalanotto vs. Pridie:

Frank Catalanotto drove in two runs with a pinch-hit triple in the ninth. He scored on a double by Jason Pridie who has forced himself into any conversation about lefthanded bat off the bench, Catalanotto appears to the favorite because of his experience in that role. Mike Jacobs may have too big a swing to maintain his timing in a limited role. And then there's Pridie who the Mets claimed off waivers from the Twins. All he's done thus far is hit. He has four RBI in 10 at-bats - link
HDH & Hyperthyroidism

But is there a link between HGH and hyperthyroidism?

This is a chicken and egg question actually. When you have the condition and it’s undetected, taking HGH is a dangerous move because it’ll jack up the thyroid even more and then you get into some nasty waters. But if you KNOW you have hyperthyroidism and a doctor manages your HGH regulation you can get an indirect correction of the condition since HGH works to systemically balance your entire endocrine system. So it’s like driving north to go south in a way. I’m sure since MLB has no test for it that they are in 24/7 mode to find metabolic footprints of its use, just like they got Manny on PED’s without isolating the actual steroid but it’s residual biochemistry. - link

Wathen on Mejia:

Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen on Mejia's outing:

"You see what you see today, he's a major-league pitcher today...But quite often, you get a report in Double A or A ball or Triple A that this guy could have pitched in the big leagues this particular day. Now, next time out, they don't know what happens. If we start seeing this happen four or five, six times, now we start thinking a little bit stronger about, 'Maybe he is ready to play up here.'" - link

Mets Meds:

Is there any member of the Mets medical staff who can speak or write in English, or are they still all using Sanskrit? Actually, this would be a great excuse, since it’s a dead language that can potentially get mistranslated.

I am not one of these pessimistic, doom and gloom Mets fans, which are always one slip away from the bottomless crevice. However, I do feel that our beloved organization is a complete mess right now and forever will be, unless changes are made. Worst of all I think that this type of inept behavior has a direct effect on what goes on between the lines. With how important image is for today’s athlete, and how quickly and easily information gets around the globe, I can’t imagine the players feel like they are in good hands. - link
