Brooklyn 8, State College 4

The Cyclones won their third straight game, and once again it was the Brooklyn bats leading the way in an 8-4 victory over the State College Spikes. Brian Harrison extended his hitting streak to seven games with a 3-5 effort and scored a pair while also collecting two RBI.

The Spikes drew first blood on Saturday evening, scoring a single run in the bottom of the first courtesy of a two-out RBI single from Alex Dickerson, but the Cyclones would respond in their next turn at-bat to take their first lead of the game. Brian Harrison started the rally with a leadoff single and came around to score later in the frame on a throwing by Spikes third baseman Chris Lashmet. On the error, Ismael Tijerina reached base and after he swiped second base, scored on an RBI single from Danny Muno to give Brooklyn the 2-1 advantage.

State College responded with a pair of runs in the fourth inning on a Matthew Skirving two-run blast to take a 3-2 lead into the top of the fifth, but Brooklyn continued the see-saw scoring and drew even in their next turn at-bat. Javier Rodriguez and Richard Lucas started the frame with back-to-back singles and when Brian Harrison extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single to score Rodriguez, Brooklyn had drawn even at 3-3.

After a scoreless sixth inning the Cyclones took control of the game with an offensive outburst in the top of the seventh. Rodriguez and Lucas started the inning with a pair of walks and Charley Thurber singled to load the bases with nobody out. Brian Harrison continued his hot streak with an RBI single before Travis Taijeron cleared the bags with a three-RBI triple and later scored on Xorge Carillo’s sacrifice fly that made it 8-3.

The Spikes pushed across a single run in the bottom of the seventh to trim Brooklyn’s lead to 8-4, but Orlando Tovar (2-1),T.J. Chism and Jeremy Gould were able to close out the game in relief of Cyclones starter Marco Camarena .
