Pawtucket 4, Buffalo 1

Mark Cohoon and Brandon Duckworth dueled to a scoreless tie until Jose Iglesias' sixth-inning two-run single put the PawSox ahead on the way to a 4-1 win Saturday night at Coca-Cola Field.

After another single, Cohoon exited in favor of Jose De La Torre with no outs and the bases loaded again.

Nate Spears, who went 2-for-2, scored Jose Iglesias with a sacrifice fly.

Cohoon finished credited with three earned runs on eight hits over five innings without a walk with one strikeout.

Despite the loss, manager Tim Teufel said he's noticed progress in Cohoon's 10 starts at Triple-A.

"It is a different level, but he's grown," Teufel said. "His last three outings, each one, he's improved in. I thought he pitched well tonight. A couple things just didn't go his way."

Cohoon said he may have tried to do too much when he first arrived to Buffalo.

"As I've started coming back to myself, stay within myself, the last few outings have been really good for me," Cohoon said. "I feel like I can definitely compete at this level. I've just got to put all the pieces of the puzzle together."

Duckworth forced the Bisons to hit into a pair of double plays, including a near five-four-three triple play, with Tony Thomas' throw missing Josh Satin at first by a step.

The PawSox righthander shut out the Herd for 6 2/3 innings, allowing six hits with two strikeouts and a walk. After replacing Duckworth, lefty reliever Tommy Hottovy quickly got pinch hitter Bubba Bell to ground out with runners on the corners.

Jose De La Torre allowed an unearned run in the seventh, when Tony Thomas scored after a wild pitch, Mike Nickeas throwing error and a fielder's choice hit into by Ronald Bermudez.

A pitch after fouling a ball of his leg, Nickeas broke the shutout with a solo home run to left-center off of Hottovy to lead off the eighth inning.

Jason Botts and Valentino Pascucci each collected two singles in the loss.

Taylor Tankersley threw shutout eighth and ninth innings on three hits, while Pawtucket's Michael Bowden struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 12th save
