Let’s revisit the Brewers organization and play Sandy again this morning.
You got rid of a messy contract option, secured two prospects to be named later, and now traded for the top pitching prospect in the San Francisco organization.
You now need to respect the players you still have in Queens and shut the doors to any more deals this season. Your team is on a winning streak and, what the hell, let’s go for a playoff spot!
You have at least one more key draft pick to sign this week, OF Brandon Nimmo, and then decide which two kids on that list Milwaukee gave you will be Mets. None of us know who’s on the list of five names, but we can assume it’s not one of their top pitching prospects.
That being said, you shouldn’t be looking for a pitcher here. This is when you hope that one of these names are on that list:
2B Scooter Gennett – a very good hitter for a second baseman… projected to replace Rickie Weeks in two years… 21-yrs. old… 2011: A+: .292/.328/.386/.714, 5-HR, 36-RBI
OF Kendrall Davis – hits for average… has had hamstring problems… gap power… knows how to walk… one of the better defensive outfielders in the minors… 23-yrs. old… 2011: A+: .258/.337/.367/.704, 6-HR, 35-RBI
OF Caleb Gindl – projects as a 4th outfielder… has good power potential… turns 23 next month… 2011: AAA: .294/.370/.474/.844, 13-HR, 38-RBI
2B Eric Farris – excellent speed… 25-yrs. old… 2011: AAA: .256/.308/.358/.665, 6-HR, 36-RBI
Due to past trades, there’s not much left in this system past pitching. Sure, I’ll take another quality arm but I hope to find myself either a future outfielder, or another option at second.

Any chance on Erik Komatsu (Cal State Fullerton guy)?
With Mark Rogers, Cody Scarpetta and Tyler Thornburg likely not options, I wonder if P Wily Peralta may be. The Mets would have to bring back atleast one arm atleast and Paralta have SP3 potential or late inning reliever type stuff.
I'd love for them to take Scooter Gennett too, but with Havens, Satin, Tejada, Murhphy, Turner, Valdespin, Sheilds, I think we have 2B covered hopefully.
Personally, if they brought back Peralta and Davis. Especially considering Kentrail Davis who was a 1st round pick in the 09 draft as well, had a huge series against St. Lucie last week so the Mets got a good look at him and as well as Gennett too.
We shall see....
Sandy & Company have already proved to me they know what they are doing in this area.
I would target an OFer.
They will probably take the best players avaiable on that list.
I just want them to get it done... now.
For awhile I was thinking Thornburg was definately part of the trade only because he was drafted in the 3rd round last year and MLB has the 1 year rule after you sign you can't be traded. I'm not sure the exact date he signed, but I have a feeling it went down to the 8/15 deadline and therefore we have to wait until then until the trade is complete. Logical?
another interesting thing...
2B Rickie Weeks went down last night... out 4-6 weeks...
@The Closer- the suggestion of Thornburg sounds good to me. As Mack said, whomever we get back, the preference is an OF bat, OR, if only it were available, a catcher- ANY catcher- LOL!!!
