Raul Reyes and Juan Lagares led the way offensively, each collecting four RBI. The B-Mets went 7-for-18 as a team with runners in scoring position and knocked in eight runs with two outs.
Binghamton collected four doubles, three triples and two home runs to earn their third straight win. They set season-highs in extra-base hits, runs scored, and margin of victory. The team matched a season-high for triples in one game.
New Britain scored a run against off Matt Harvey in the first, but their lead was short-lived. Matt den Dekker doubled to lead off the bottom of the first on the first pitch David Bromberg threw. Den Dekker came home on Allan Dykstra’s two-out double to tie the game.
Binghamton took the lead for good in the second. Bromberg retired the first two he faced before walking Kai Gronauer. Den Dekker made the righty pay for the free pass by ripping his eighth home run of the season over the right field fence.
While Matt Harvey kept the Rock Cats off the board in the third, the B-Mets added to their lead in the bottom of the inning. Brahiam Maldonado started the frame by tripling to center. The next batter, Dykstra, singled him home to make it 4-1.
Two batters later, Raul Reyes banged his 12th homer halfway up the video board beyond the right field fence. Bromberg walked two more later in the inning and allowed both to score on Juan Lagares’ double to left. By the time reliever Matt Schuld struck out Reese Havens to end the inning, the B-Mets held an 8-1 lead.
New Britain scratched away at the deficit by plating two in the fourth against Harvey on a solo home run by Chris Parmelee and a run-scoring ground out by Deibinson Romero. The righty got into trouble in the fifth, but induced Evan Bigley to ground out with the bases loaded to end the inning and cap his night.
In the sixth, New Britain cut the B-Mets lead to three. Brad Holt took over for Harvey and allowed the first three he faced to reach safely on two singles and a hit-by-pitch. The right-hander then forced two runs home on back-to-back walks to Brian Dozier and Mike Hollimon.
With the tying run at first base, B-Mets manager Wally Backman called on Ricky Brooks. Brooks put out the fire by striking out Joe Benson and Parmelee to end inning and the threat.
The B-Mets used another big inning to put the game out of reach. Following den Dekker’s lead-off single in the sixth, Lagares stroked his second triple of the game to right field. Havens drove home Lagares with a sac fly.
After the B-Mets loaded the bases against Schuld on a single, a hit-by-pitch, and an error, Dakota Watts was called in from the pen. He was greeted rudely by Reyes, who dumped a two-run single into left. Kai Gronauer’s RBI single capped the five-run inning and gave Binghamton a 13-5 lead.
Rhiner Cruz toed the rubber in the seventh and took the game to the finish line. The right-hander retired all nine he faced over three perfect innings to earn his fifth save of the year. Binghamton tacked on four more runs in the eighth, highlighted by a two-run double by Havens and an RBI single by Maldonado.
Harvey earned his third straight win. He allowed three runs on five hits and struck out six over five innings. Bromberg was handed his third loss. He gave up eight runs on eight hits, including two home runs over 2.2 innings.
