Palm Beach 8, St. Lucie 4

The St. Lucie Mets dropped the series opener to the Palm Beach Cardinals 8-4 Tuesday night at Digital Domain Park. The 8-4 loss puts the Mets at 27-24 on the second half of the season and 65-56 overall.

Mets starter Kyle Allen was chased from the game after only 2.2 innings of work allowing seven runs on seven hits. The 7-0 deficit proved to be too much for the Mets to overcome. It was an 8-0 before the Mets would get on the scoreboard. St. Lucie put together a rally in the fifth inning sending ten men to the plate scoring four times keyed by a two-run single off the bat of Juan Centeno. That would be all the runs the Mets could muster. St. Lucie stranded two runners in the sixth inning and had the bases loaded with only one out but could not convert in the eighth inning. The Mets were retired 1, 2, 3, in the ninth inning to end the game.

Kyle Allen got the loss allowing seven runs on seven hits while striking out and walking four in 2.2 innings of work. Juan Centeno had two hits and drove in a pair for the Mets. Wilmer Flores and Stefan Welch both had two hits in the loss. Scott Moviel allowed one run in 3.1 innings of relief of Allen and Mike Powers tossed two scoreless innings to close out the game.
