B-Mets Pre-Game Notes

LAST GAME: The B-Mets pounded out 14 hits, but fell to the Altoona Curve by an 11-3 score last night at Blair County Ball-park. Jeurys Familia suffered the second-shortest outing of his career, getting roughed up for four runs on four hits in an inning and two-thirds. Familia tossed a perfect first inning before un-raveling in the second. He gave up four hits, walked two, and uncorked three wild pitches before being relieved by Erik Tur-geon. Binghamton could not dig back after the disastrous in-ning. Allan Dykstra led the offense with a double, a home run, and two RBI. The Curve added five more runs off Rhiner Cruz in the seventh to put the game out of reach.



STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Tobi Stoner makes his 13th start with the B-Mets and second against the Curve this season. Stoner lost his last start against the Portland Sea Dogs on July 27. He was tagged for five runs (four earned) on nine hits, including two home runs. Stoner faced Altoona in his first start of the year with the B-Mets and allowed six runs on seven hits over five innings in a loss.


LHP Jeff Locke will make his 21st start of the season and sec-ond against the B-Mets. The southpaw allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over five innings in a no-decision to the Portland Sea Dogs in his last start on July 28. The New Hamp-shire native struck out eight B-Mets over five innings in a win on May 28. Locke was originally a second-round draft pick by the Braves in 2006 before he was traded to the Pirates along with RHP Charlie Morton and OF Gorkys Hernandez for OF Nate McLouth on 6/3/09.


THE STREAK CONTINUES, BARELY: For the seventh straight game, B-Mets shortstop Jordany Valdespin picked up just one hit. His single in the ninth inning last night extended his hitting streak to ten games, tied with Eric Campbell for the longest for any B-Met this season. Valdespin is hitting .295 (13-44) over the stretch.


A START TO FORGET: B-Mets starter Jeurys Familia lasted just an inning and two-thirds in last night’s game, the second-shortest outing of his career. It was just the second time in his three-year career that he failed to make it through three in-nings. Familia’s shortest career outing came with the GCL Mets (R) when he recorded just two outs and allowed three runs against the GCL Dodgers on 7/4/08.


A HOME RUN, FINALLY: Allan Dykstra’s solo home run in the 4th inning was Binghamton’s first long ball since Juan Lagares homered against Harrisburg on July 28, a 37-inning homerless stretch for the B-Mets
