LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets scored five runs in the first inning en route to an 11-4 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats last night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The B-Mets collected 13 hits, including three home runs, and Gonzalez Germen fired seven innings in the win. Josh Rodriguez stroked a three-run homer, part of a four RBI night. Eric Campbell finished a triple shy of the cycle and racked up three RBI. Matt den Dekker hit a two-run homer and matched an individual B-Met season-high with three runs scored. Germen struck out three and allowed three runs over seven innings in his first Double-A victory. The B-Mets chased New Hampshire starter Deck McGuire from the game with one out in the first inning, his shortest career outing.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Darin Gorski (2-1, 2.27) makes his seven start of the season and second against the Fisher Cats. Gorski allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and struck out four over six innings in a loss to the Harrisburg Senators on May 5. The southpaw had his shortest Double-A outing versus New Hampshire on April 25. He gave up a season-high four runs on five hits and walked four over 3.2 innings. He spent all of last year with the St. Lucie Mets (High-A) and was named the Florida State League pitcher of the year. Gorski won the Sterling Organizational Award as the top pitcher in the New York Mets’ farm system.
RHP Yohan Pino (2-0, 2.63) takes the mound for sixth time to make his fifth start as a Fisher Cat in 2012. He allowed just two runs on six hits over 6.1 innings in a no-decision in his previous start against the Trenton Thunder on May 6. Pino gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits over 6.0 innings in a win over the B-Mets on April 26. Pino made one relief appearance with the Fisher Cats on Opening Day before being promoted to Las Vegas (AAA) for one start. He was returned to the Fisher Cats on April 16. The righty was acquired by the Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations from the Cleveland Indians in April 2011.
PLENTY OF HIGHS: The B-Mets set a season-high with 11 runs and matched a high by hitting three home runs. Matt den Dekker matched an individual B-Met high by scoring three times and Josh Rodriguez became the second B-Met this year to rack up four RBI in one game. Eric Campbell matched a season-high with seven total bases.
POWER, FINALLY: Matt den Dekker’s two-run homer in the fourth inning was the first B-Mets dinger since Raul Reyes went deep against the Akron Aeros on May 3. It snapped a drought that spanned more the six games, 67.0 innings and 277 plate appearances. It was their longest drought since they went seven games without one from August 19-25, 2009. Josh Rodriguez and Eric Campbell also supplied homers.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: Last night’s five-run first inning was the most Binghamton has scored in their first turn at bat this season. It was the first time since May 3 that they have scored in the first inning.
TEEING OFF: The B-Mets have hit .333 (27-for-81) in the first two games of the series with six extra-base hits (three doubles & three home runs). The 20 runs scored are the most in consecutive games for the B-Mets since they plated 24 runs in a two-game stretch in August 2011 (8/14: 7 v Richmond & 8/15: 17 v New Britain).
BACK-TO-BACK WINS: The B-Mets have won consecutive games for the first time since they put four in a row together from April 19-22 against the Portland Sea Dogs.
IN MANCHESTER: The B-Mets have gone 3-2 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in 2012. They won just two games in Manchester last year.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets complete their four-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 PM. RHP Greg Peavey takes the ball against RHP Randy Boone.
