5-14-12 - Daily Mets Minors Report

Date: 5-14-12

 AAA-Buffalo:

Josh Satin remains at first base and the Pac-Man DHs… that’s the way it should be. Matt Harvey started Mother’s Day. The Bisons exploded for five runs in the eight inning, which included doubles by Satin, Vinnie Rottino, and Dustin Martin. Harvey had another of those ‘meh’ outings: 6.0-IP, 7-H, 4-ER, 6-K, 4.29. Nothing to either sneeze or write home about and definitely not the outing that vaults you to Queens. Elvin Ramirez (0.00) had two more scoreless innings… hello???? If the Nats though this guy was worthy of a 25-man a year ago, why not now when the Mets need a shot in the arm, pen wise?

AA-Binghamton:

RHP Kevin Mulvey placed on disabled list (right groin strain)

RHP Erik Turgeon transferred from Brooklyn (SS-A) to Binghamton (AA)
2B Reese Havens sits today (thank God…)… Greg Peavey gets the bump and gives up four runs in the third… this happened right after CF Matt den Dekker drove in two with a double…  3B Jefry Marte hit his first home run of the season (which should shut up Soto for around 8 minutes…), and den Dekker also hit his 5th of the season… this was another non-quality start for Peavey (5.0-IP, 5-ER) and, with the pitching depth in this organization right now, you can’t afford to have too many of these right now…  Robert Carson got his first save.

A+ - St. Lucie: -   off surfing

A – Savannah:

It was interesting talking to one of the national scouting guys regarding this year’s Savannah Sand Gnats. I try to reach outside the Mets world to see how others look at what this team has assembled. In simply terms, this is a simple team. This particular scout says that the Sand Gnats have only one player that offers any chance of succeeding at the MLB level and that would be P Domingo Tapia. He also said it was too early in his career to justify spending all that money to come to Savannah to scout one player (what about Michael Fulmer?). Interesting. I was at batting practice last week and read over one of the rosters of the Sally League team. I noticed that I didn’t recognize a single name. I first thought I was losing it (again) and then realized that the reason was that there were no prospects on that team. The Sally League seems to be becoming a dump for tertiary level players waiting for someone above them to get either promoted or injured. Sad.
