TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Gwinnett Braves in the first of a four-game series at Coolray Field (7:05 p.m.). This is the first meeting between the two ball clubs this season and first game outside of the IL North Division for the Herd. Tonight is the third game of a season long 10-game road trip that will end in Charlotte.
vs. BRAVES: This is the first and only time the Herd will visit Gwinnett in 2012. Last season, both teams won three out of four at their respective ballparks, splitting the season series 4-4. The Braves currently sit atop the IL South Division with a 4.5 game lead over second place Charlotte while the Bisons fell out of first place in the IL North over the weekend.
ON THE BUMP: RHPCHRIS SCHWINDEN returns to the mound for the Herd tonight after starting two games for the Mets. Schwinden went 0-1 with an 11.25ERA in New York. The righty is making his first start with the Bisons since April 22, a complete-game 1-0 loss in game two of a double-header in Syracuse. Nearly 11 months to the day, Schwinden took the ball at Coolray Field (June 6, 2011) allowing just three runs in six innings of work in a no-decision. The Bisons ultimately lost to the Braves, 4-3.
ROSTER MOVES: To make room for the return of Chris Schwinden, the Bisons have sent RHP BRAD HOLT back to Binghamton (AA). While with the Herd, Holt had a 10.13ERA and one save in six outings (5.1IP, 3K).
SO LONG...FOR NOW: The Bisons finally begin their non-division schedule after playing the entire month of April and early May against division opponents. The Herd fared well, going 17-13 and placing in at third in the IL North. The next time the Bisons face a divisional foe is a four-game series against Scranton/WB, May 24-27 at Coca-Cola Field.
BISONS BITS: The Bisons are second in the IL in both team batting average (.277) and team ERA (3.14)...INFBOBBY SCALES is third in the IL in batting average (.355) and leads the league in on-base percentage (.469)...With two more innings of work, RHPCHRIS SCHWINDEN’S 2.05ERA would quality as fourth best in the IL.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (15-13) defeated the Diamondbacks on Sunday, 3-1. Former Bisons RHPR.A. DICKEY allowed just four hits over eight innings of work for his third win of the season. CJOSH THOLE drove in one of the three runs for the ‘Amazins. The Mets open a three-game series in Philadelphia tonight (7:05 p.m.)
