The team is quietly preparing to offer third baseman David Wright a long-term contract extension at some point later this year—perhaps as soon as this summer—according to a baseball official briefed on the Mets' thinking.
Let's assume this happens.
The first think the Mets should do is take all sharp objects away from Zach Lutz. Maybe even dull ones.
Zach serves a purpose as David's emergency backup, though so does Justin Turner. He's already in the way of Jenfy Marte, who is hitting .318/.377/.418/.795 for Binghamton.
In addition, the team doesn't need to delay Wilmer Flores' move to first base. Yes, he's playing well on third, but, unless he's being showcased for a future trade, have him play a position that the Mets may need some help at in the next couple of years.
Bump Joe Bonfe to St. Lucie and give him an every day chance of sticking.
Play Aderlin Rodriguez at third base in Savannah until he has grandchildern.

All good points, but it is good to see a homegrown player stay in New York like he should.
You don't have many players like David Wright who love the team and love the city.
