LAST GAME: The B-Mets were held to five hits offensively as they dropped the series opener to the Bowie Baysox, 6-3 Friday night. Bowie jumped out to a 5-0 lead against Cory Mazzoni. They righty gave up five runs on eight hits in six innings on the mound. Meanwhile, Bowie pitcher Tyler Wilson did not allow a base hit until there were two outs in the fifth inning. The offensive highlight for Binghamton came in the sixth when Allan Dykstra blasted a three-run home run to right field to make it a 5-3 game. Bowie added an insurance run in the ninth, andMarcel Prado tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the save. The loss ended Binghamton’s six-game winning streak.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Logan Verrett makes his 13th start of the season for the B-Mets. The righty enters play tied for the league lead with seven wins. He won his seventh game of the year in his last start on June 7 @ Altoona. He allowed two runs over six innings in a game Binghamton would win, 3-2. In his last two starts, Verrett has allowed 20 total hits in 11.0 innings. His batting average against has jumped from .214 to .249. At NYSEG Stadium this season, Verrett is 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA in six starts. He started off the season with a 4-0 record and a 2.48 ERA in April.

BOWIE STARTING PITCHER: LHP Jake Pettit makes his 11th start of the season with the Baysox. On June 9 vs. New Britain, the lefty got a no-decision after he gave up six runs in 4.1 innings on the mound. On the road in 2013, Pettit is 2-2 with a 4.93 ERA in six starts. To this point he has allowed less than one hit per inning, holding his opponent batting average to .235. In May, he went 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA. He was drafted by the Orioles in the 42nd round of the 2010 draft out of Western Oregon University.

GREAT START TO JUNE: The B-Mets are 9-2 through the first 11 games of June. As a team they are hitting .293 and have scored 64 runs this month (5.8 per game). Cesar Puello leads the league in batting average in June (.515) and has nine extra base hits. Allan Dykstra is hitting .379 with three home runs, and Danny Muno ranks second in the league this month with 14 RBI. The pitching staff has also been strong on the mound; they have posted a 2.40 ERA.

ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END: Josh Rodriguez was left standing in the on deck circle as Friday’s game ended. He finished the night 0-for-2 which snapped his career-long 23-game hitting streak. His streak began back on May 13, and Rodriguez hit .427 (38-89). He had five three-hit games. The streak was tied for the second longest by an Eastern League player since 2005. The longest was set by Nate Schierholtz in 2006, when he hit in 25 straight games. During the streak his batting average jumped from .241 to .320.

STOLEN BASES: Binghamton leads the league with 77 stolen bases, however they have not stolen a base in any of their last five games. Cesar Puello is ranked third in the league with 17 steals, and Darrell Ceciliani is tied for fifth with 14 steals.   

OFFENSE HELD DOWN: The B-Mets were limited to five base hits in Friday’s loss. They had recorded double figure hit totals in each of the previous four games. The last time Binghamton had less than six hits was May 25 vs. Portland.
POTENTIAL SERIES LOSS: A loss on Saturday or Sunday would give the B-Mets their first series loss since May 6-8 @ Trenton. Binghamton has won each of their last five series; two of them have been series sweeps.

STRUGGLES AGAINST BOWIE: Including Friday’s 6-3 loss, Binghamton is now 1-8 in their last nine games against Bowie going back to 2012.


NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets finish their quick three-game homestand with the series finale against the Baysox. Sunday’s first pitch is at 1:05 PM as LHP Mark Cohoon will pitch for Binghamton against Bowie RHP Devin Jones.
