LAST GAME: The B-Mets dropped the series opener against the Erie SeaWolves, 5-2 Friday night. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning against Kyle Lobstein, but Erie scored the final five runs en route to the win. The Binghamton offense only recorded four hits over the final seven innings, and never got a runner on third base after the fourth inning. Logan Verrett was handed the loss after allowing five runs in 7.2 innings on the mound. Jamie Johnson gave Erie the lead for good in the sixth with a two-run triple in the gap. Allan Dykstra and Alonzo Harris led the B-Met offense with two hits each.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: LHP Mark Cohoon makes his ninth start of the season, and his second against the SeaWolves. His first start of the season was against Erie on April 30. He threw four scoreless innings and gave up two hits in a no-decision. As a starting pitcher this season, Cohoon is 1-3 with a 4.54 ERA. He began the season in the bullpen, and went 2-0 with a 7.11 ERA in four appearances. Opponents are hitting .342 against the lefty, and he has given up at least four runs in each of his last three starts. In seven games (five starts) at NYSEG Stadium this season, he is 1-2 with a 5.46 ERA. Cohoon has thrown at least 5.0 innings  in each of his last five starts.
ERIE STARTING PITCHER: RHP Jon Link makes his first start of the season for the SeaWolves. Link was just added to the Tiger organization from the Wichita Wingnuts in the American Association. In seven starts with the Wingnuts, he was 6-1 with a 1.74 ERA. He led the league in both wins and ERA. Link was originally drafted by the Padres in the 26th round of the 2005 draft out of Bluefield College. In 2010, he reached the Major Leagues and threw nine games out of the bullpen with the Dodgers. In his career, he has pitched in the Padres, White Sox, Dodgers, Orioles, and Marlins farm systems.

HIGH STRIKEOUT TOTALS: Logan Verrett struck out a career-high 11 batters in Friday’s loss. That matches a season high for a B-Met starter this season (Cory Mazzoni, 6/6 vs. TRN). As a staff, Binghamton has 632 strikeouts (8.8 per game) which leads the league. The staff has recorded at least nine strikeouts in seven of the last nine B-Met games.

OUTHIT OPPONENTS: In Friday’s loss, Binghamton outhit the SeaWolves, 7-5. That was just the third loss of the season when the B-Mets outhit their opponent. They are 32-3 in those games.

SERIES OPENING LOSS: Friday was the third straight series where the B-Mets have lost the series opener. In each of the last two series, they have come back and won the final two games to win the series.


SERIES STREAK: Binghamton enters this series against Erie winners of eight consecutive series. Their 2013 series record is 13-4-5, and they have not lost a series since May 6-8 (@ TRN). To keep the streak alive, the B-Mets must win on both Saturday and Sunday.

BULLPEN NUMBERS: Over the last 23.0 innings thrown by the Binghamton bullpen, they have allowed just three runs. The stretch is over the last eight games, and the B-Mets are 5-3 during that time. This season, the bullpen has posted a 15-8 record with a 3.20 ERA. They are 20 for 26 in save chances, with Jeff Walters leading the way with a league-leading 17 saves.

MOVING RIGHT ALONG: Friday’s game ended after 2 hours, 27 minutes. That is the shortest nine-inning game for the B-Mets since May 23rd at New Britain, when they completed a 1-0 pitchers duel in 2:07.
