OPEN THREAD - 1B/OF - Jordan Patterson

As of yesterday morning, the Mets had an open slot next spring at first base (once Peter Alonso is promoted) and in the infield.

That seems to have been filled now.

The Mets signed 26-year old LHH Jordan Patterson who was waived from the Colorado Rockies.

Patterson was a fourth round 2013 draft pick, out of the College of South Alabama. He has played all six professional seasons in the Rockies chain.

He has a career major league batting average of .444 (18 at-bats, 2016), which he has followed with 26-HR, 92-RBI in 2017 and 26-HR, 76-RBI in 2018 at the AAA level.

This is not the kind of move that wets the Reese whistle, but organizations need quality filler material, Patterson is a professional bat that is a phone call away in case of an injury.

No, it's not Brian McCann, but I'll take it,

To me, he is far from a definite MLB player.

The last 2 seasons in the PCL, he hit about .277/.355/.535.

I knock off about 30 points for it being the PCL, and another 30-40 points for the step up to the big leagues.

So he seems much more likely to be marginal than valuable to the Mets. Think Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Time will tell.

Albuquerque as a team hit .285/.347/.469, showing how much of a hitter's park they play in. His numbers are about team-average - hit a little lower, power a little higher.

Team-average players, as I see it, typically don't cut it in the big leagues.

Pat Kivlehan, who we did not keep, hit 40 points higher than Patterson, with comparable power and fewer Ks, and did it on a worse hitting team than Patterson's.

I guess it is OK as depth and/or an option for Syracuse (still feels good to type that).

After all, there would be quite a few errors for the rest of that infield if they didn't have anyone playing first, right? Or, you fielders would get tired running the ball over there by themselves!

I kid! Thank you, I am here all week.......sorry, a punchy day at work.

its depth. a 1b rf/lf guy at AAA. Honestly its a good idea type of pick up. especially if they really think they are going to contend. rather this type then the AGon types.

So what does Dom Smith do in Syracuse? Become a tourguide at the Erie Canal Museum?

Well, I totally forgot about our former first round pick!

Left Field?

Trade fodder in a bigger deal with Seattle?

Not sure?

Smith needs to do what is necessary to re-enter the conversation. He is esconced in the Cecchini Twilight Zone, according to Rod Serling.

Luis Guillorme may be joining that dubiou fraternity.
