7/7/10

2011 DRAFT: - C.T. Bradford, Sonny Gray, Michael Roth, Andrew Gagnon... and Phillip Pfeifer

C.T.Bradford:

7-2 from: - link  – OF C.T. Bradford singled home pinch runner Carlos Garmendia with 2 out in the bottom of the 7th inning to give the Florida Bombers a dramatic 4-3 victory over the East Cobb Braves 17's. It was the Bombers unprecedented sixth WWBA 18U National Championship and avenged their 11-10 loss to the Braves in the 2009 championship game. Bradford, a Mississippi State signee and the Bombers captain, was named the tournament Most Valuable Player. The 5-10 left hander went 2-0 on the mound, including a complete win in the Bombers semifinal victory over the Orlando Scorpions. Bradford batted leadoff and played centerfield when not on the mound and led the Bombers in runs scored in addition to his final game heroics.

Sonny Gray:

7-4 from: - link  - Gray is a mere 5-11/195, but the power arsenal each boasts is equally impressive... Gray sits 93-96 mph with his fastball, pairing it with a second plus offering in his low-80s slider, which can climb as high as 85 mph. His off-speed is an 80-82 change with some depth. Gray racked-up 113 SO in 108.7 IP and a 9.65 SO/9, good for 21st and 68th overall, respectively, through conference tournament play. The primary knock on the Commodore power arm is his smallish frame, which leads some to believe he will ultimately land in the pen. His quality arsenal could play out of the rotation or pen with Team USA, and he logged innings in both capacities last summer.

Michael Roth:

7-5 from: - link  - LHP ROTH rose to the occasion during four appearances at the 2010 College World Series, where he compiled a 1.10 ERA and answered the call with strong outings in his first two starts of the season (he also made only two starts as a freshman, in 2009). His most impressive appearance came in his first start, as the 6-1, 210-pound lefthander went the distance in 3-hit fashion to defeat in-state rival Clemson (5-1) – in what was SC’s third of four straight wins when facing elimination. Over the course of his 16.1 innings at the CWS, Roth limited the opposition to a .167 combined batting avg. (9 H) and had three times as many strikeouts (9) as walks (3, also 3 hit batters and 20 groundouts).

Andrew Gagnon:

7-6 from: - http://collegebaseball360.com/2010/07/06/cape-cod-playerpitcher-of-the-week-76  - Gagnon delivered seven shutout innings, striking out nine and surrendering only two hits in a 1-0 win over Hyannis. In his second start, he allowed only one run on five hits, while striking out eight in seven innings against Orleans. Gagnon has been one of the league’s brightest stars this season. He leads in wins (3) and strikeouts (27). He was also named to the All Big West second team last season, accumulating a team-leading 3.28 ERA.

Phillip Pfeifer:

7-7 from: - link = - The USA Baseball 18U National Team past the Greater Alliance N.Y. All-Stars 8-5 Tuesday afternoon at MCU Park in Coney Island, N.Y. Phillip Pfeifer earned the win notching eight strikeouts in five innings. Pfeifer (1-0) allowed just two runs on five hits and two walks in five frames of work. The left-hander caught half of the N.Y. All-Stars' batters he fanned, looking at a called third strike.
