LAST GAME: After falling behind 10-4, the B-Mets almost recovered,
rallying for five unanswered runs in the final three
innings before falling 10-9 with the tying run on base in the
ninth Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park. The loss marked the
fourth consecutive for Double-A rookie Robert Carson, who
allowed six runs (five earned) over 4.2 innings. Brooks Brown,
by contrast, picked up his ninth win with six innings of four-run
work, including eight strikeouts. Binghamton ripped three
homers in the loss. Mike Nickeas got the B-Mets on the board
with his fifth homer of the season in the third, Sean Ratliff tied
the game with a three-run shot in the fourth, his 11th of the
season and Zach Lutz got Binghamton within a run in the
ninth with a two-run blast to right, also his 11th of the year.
Ratliff drove in four runs as the B-Mets outhit Erie for the first
time in the series, 12-11, but lost despite that fact.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Josh Stinson will make
his 12th start of the season this afternoon. He is coming off
his worst start of the year, July 27 versus Portland when he
gave up a season-high seven runs on seven hits over 2.1
innings, his shortest start to date. Binghamton recovered to
win through and is 11-0 in games started by the righty.
Stinson is 8-1 with a 3.62 ERA over 97 innings. In 2009, he
split the season between Savannah (Low-A) and St. Lucie
(High-A) and went 5-3 with eight saves and a 2.86 ERA in 78.2
innings combined. The Mets took the right-hander in the 37th
round of the June 2006 draft out of Northwood HS (LA).
RHP Brayan Villarreal is due for his third Double-A start this
afternoon. He tossed 7.2 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts
against Altoona in his last start, July 27, but did not factor
in the decision. Villarreal is 0-1 with a 1.32 ERA over 13.2
innings in an Erie uniform. He opened the season with Lakeland
(High-A) and was 7-4 with a 3.47 ERA over 16 starts
(85.2 IP) with 90 strikeouts. Last season, Villarreal went 5-5
with a 2.87 ERA over 103.1 innings with West Michigan (Low-
A). He started the season in the bullpen and made 10 relief
appearances with a 0.73 ERA (24.2 IP) before moving into the
starting rotation where he made 16 starts. Detroit signed
Villarreal as an international free agent October 25, 2005.
