A Vineyard ???

Most of you know I live in the Hilton Head Island, South Carolina area. There is a very large ex-New York populace here as well as the Mets A-affiliate team in our neighboring city of Savannah, Georgia.

The wife sent me to Wal-Mart today to pick up a few things and I wore one of my Mets t-shirts. One of the checkout dudes who was a reader of my now defunct local column and follows the Yankees laughed when he saw my shirt and blurted out "how do you keep writing about these guys"?

I didn't have an answer for him. It has become tougher to do this daily these past few months. The Queens team is playing above their head and that only gets them 4th place in the division. The Buffalo team really is bad and the Binghamton team is downright embarrassing. The owner does an interview with a couple of national periodicals and calls his own team "shitty" and I'm being lectured by someone that roots for the sane New York team, the Yanks.

And, it looks like it's going to get worse. Jasan Bay went down again last night. I turned the game off when they were down 11-1 and Carlos Zambrano was allowed to pinch hit (I would have beaned the mother...).

Yeah, there was a team meeting over the comments by the owner, but the results didn't rally the guys. No one really wants to be part of this right now and I expect them to be solidly in last place by the time the all-star break begins.

I also read today that Peter Gammons said the Mets will draft some shortstop named Levi Michael with the 13th pick in the draft. Peter Gammons has worse predictions then that Rapture dude.

Let me tell you... if the Mets draft Levi Michael with their first pick instead of choosing one of the A+ starters that will available to them with that pick, I will finally hang up the laptop.

And lastly, the "other" article says the monies being saved will not be reinvested in the team. Even the name Jose Reyes and 'supplimental picks are being used in the same sentence.

What would 2012 look like?

Infield:  Ike Davis, Reese Havens, Ruben Tejada, David Wright, John Thole

Outfield:  Jason Bay, Angel Pagan, Fernando Martinez

SPs:  Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey, Jon Niese, R.A. Dickey, Dillon Gee

Utility:  Mike Nickeas, Justin Turner, Lucas Duda, Kirk Nieuwenhuis

And who knows?  Maybe Levi Michael could make the team by the break.

A vineyard?

Interesting...

A "reach" for me would be Miami-Dade College OF Brian Goodwin, who was ruled inelligible at North Carolina for violating university policy... 4-tool player, lacking only power

an "overdraft" would at this point be TCU pitcher Kyle Winkler... excellent stats but horrible mechanics

three likely...

RHP Archie Bradley
LHP Daniel Norris (though I don't like him - too small)
OF George Springer
