B-Mets Pre-Game Notes

LAST GAME: The B-Mets dropped game one of a doubleheader to the New Britain Rock Cats 4-3 in eight innings before taking the nightcap with a 6-2 victory yesterday at New Britain Sta-dium. In game one, the B-Mets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a Brahiam Maldonado triple and Jose Coronado home run. After the Rock Cats tied it up, Binghamton answered with another run in the fifth. New Britain scratched out a run off B-Mets starter Mark Cohoon in the sixth to tie things up and then won in the bottom of the eighth inning when Mark Dolenc doubled home the winning run. It was Dolenc’s fourth hit of the game. In game two, the B-Mets jumped on spot starter Spencer Steedley for a run in the first. After a Rock Cats score in the bottom of the first, Jean Luc Blaquiere answered with his first home run of the season to lead off the third. Binghamton then put the game away with a four-run fourth, capped by Josh Satin’s bases-loaded triple. B-Mets starter Brad Holt made it all the way to the seventh before being lifted for Erik Turgeon who nailed down the win, the first for Binghamton since May 14.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Robert Carson makes his ninth start of the season and second versus the Rock Cats. Carson walked three and allowed five runs (three earned) against Harrisburg in his last start on May 21. The left-hander gave up five runs on six hits and five walks over 4.1 innings in a loss to New Britain on May 9.

RHP Brett Jacobson will makes his 12th appearance and third start. The Arizona native did not allow a hit, but walked four through three scoreless innings in his previous start against Portland on May 14. Jacobson allowed two runs on four hits in four innings against the B-Mets in his only other start on May 9. The Twins acquired Jacobson from Orioles with RHP Jim Hoey in exchange for SS J.J. Hardy on December 9, 2010.

SNAPPED OUT OF IT: Yesterday’s win snapped the B-Mets eight-game losing streak, their longest stretch of the season. Prior the victory over the Rock Cats, the B-Mets had not won a game since they defeated the Trenton Thunder 3-2 on May 14.

AN EARLY EDGE: The B-Mets scored the first runs in both games yesterday. It was the first time since May 15 against Trenton that they plated the first runs of a ballgame.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: B-Mets infielder Jon Malo got on base and came around to score to lead off both games yesterday. It was the first time Binghamton’s leadoff man had scored to start consecutive games this season. It was also the first time the B-Mets had scored a run in the first inning since May 12 against the Trenton Thunder.
