Beltran to Braves? - Possibilities

So now, the Braves want Beltran…

That’s fine, but, being a divisional rival it’s going to cost you. The Mets will not be able to get either Mike Minor or Julio Teheran here, but there are plenty of other good young pitchers in the Braves system plus a decent catching prospect.

Top prospects in Braves system that could be in play:

RHP Randall Delgado – 21/yrs. old – 6-3/200… fastball hits mid-90s… continues to have control issues… 2011: AA – 5-4, 3.54, 1.34, 3.53-BABIP, 6.75-FIP, 101.2-IP, 95-K, 38-BB

RHP Arodys Vizcaino – 20/yrs. old – 6-0/190… lots of velo here… easily hits high-90s… excellent changeup 20-mph slower than his fastball… potential closer… 2011: A+/AA: 4-5, 3.17, 88.0-IP, 90-K, 26-BB.

LHP Carlos Perez – 19/yrs. old – 6-2/195… was unhittable until he went down last year with a stress fracture in his non-throwing shoulder… mid-90s fastball… lots of movement… 2011: 4-7, 5.03, 1.54, 96.2-IP, 88-K, 40-BB, .347-WHIP, 4.00-FIP

LHP Brett Oberholtzer – 22/yrs. old – 6-2/230… known as a “bulldog”… fastball is low-90s… this is the pitching prospect the Braves would like you to pick… 2011: AA – 7-9, 3.81, 1.21, 115.2-IP, 84-K, 35-BB, .296-WHIP, 3.49-FIP

C Christian Bethancourt –19/yrs. old – 6-2/190… big strong catcher… high projections for pop… big time arm rated “80”… 2011: A/A+ - .286/.304/.396/.700, 4-HR, 37-RBI

Opinion: Don’t be shocked that the Mets are considering offers from divisional rivals. The selling of Carlos Beltran is a 2011-thing and nothing more. He and his agent will negotiate his own 2012 deal, most probably with a team outside this division, probably one in the American League.

I spoke with a scout today and asked him if a Betran trade is now a “two prospect” deal. He said “definitely yes, especially if he bats .400 in the five games after he returns from the flu.” He’s the best bat available for a pennant race team.

Regarding Atlanta, Delgado would be a great addition and a deal for him and Bethancourt would, at least, have me dancing in the halls.

Pitchers all look good but that catcher doesn't impress me like Boston's, Cleveland's or Autin Romine from New York.

Braves are usually pretty stingy with prospects.

The good news here is all the cards are in Sandy's hands.

I think the Mets are going to get two very good prospects for Beltran.

I really do.
