Beltran to Philly?
Everybody wants Carlos this month, including the Mets chief rival.
The Mets hold all the cards here, especially for one of their top prospects:
Options:
OF Dominic Brown – 23/yrs. old – 6-5/205… the real deal… didn’t fair well first time in majors… 2011: MLB - .246/.331/.396/.728, 5-HR, 16-RBI.
RHP Brody Colvin – 21/yrs. old next month – 6-3/195… big time arm… conventional pitcher a ala Dillon Gee… 2011: A – 2-4, 4.03, 76.0-IP, 52-K
RHP Jared Cosart – 21/yrs. old – 6-3/180… considered top pitching prospect but there has been some elbow soreness… great command and plus fastball… health concerns… 2011: A – 7-8, 4.13, 96.0-IP, 72-K
C Sebastian Valle – 21/yrs. old – 6-1/170… good combination of defense and pop… 2011: A+ - .314/.335/.432/.767, 3-HR, 28-RBI
2B Cesar Hernandez – 21/yrs. old… 5-10/160… toolsy… 2011 – A+ - .259/.298/.326/.624,3-HR,25-RBI
Opinion:
I have no problem trading within divisions. Beltran will cut his own deal in 2012, most probably an American League team.
You only make a deal with this team if you want and believe in Dominic Brown. There’s no other reason to trade here. Brown can immediately step into RF and remain in the Mets outfield foryears to come. His pay is $414K/yr. and he has all three ARB years left to go.
The throw in should be Valle who would immediately rise to the top catching prospect in the Mets system.

Brown & Valle would be a prizewinner. Hard to believe the Phils would include Brown though, unless the deal was expanded.
Any skinny on this guy Trevor May [K/BB 140/47 in 106 IP in A+; and last year 182/81 in 135 IP (A/A+)]?
Would you take Valle, Colvin & May?
May has a lot of talent but he has mechanics problems and lack of command at this point in his career...
I'm greedy here... Beltran should product an immediate impact player...
the scout I talked to yesterday said not to discount Beltran. There is no bigger bat avaiable and he said that Carlos should bring TWO B-A prospects...
@ Hobie, I'd snap at that offer. In fact I would be more excited about May than Cosart.
I think Brown would require the Mets to give up a prospect in return.
We could use any and all types of players. Yes, young pitching is the best, but think of all the bats we lost to injury and the one that isnt producing in left,...once Carlos is gone, we are going to need big time offense next year. He must be replaced offensivly and our OF talent in the minors, isn't nearly ready. We made due quite nicely with our pitching and hopefully with a healthy Santana, we should be fine in that reguard in 2012, so even though id love a great prospect and have started out, im starting to rethink it and am leaning towards a offensive OFer or catcher
Charls, the current Mets system is pretty stocked for SPs...
"We" (writers never use "we"... lol) need pop in the outfield and an every day catcher
Thank goodness i'm not a writer...
